Default Ecutek license

Hi guys, recently upgraded to a hawkeye sti from my bugeye wrx. Got it from a dealer so won't be touching it for a year due to warranty, had a new engine fitted some 10k ago so I know that's safe for the time being too.but the dealer said it had an ecutek remap but I've not got the license, anyway I can get a copy (like its sores on a database maybe) just to save a bit on future remaps really.

Many thanks tom

I don't think you receive a license mate, its stored on the ECU.

As above. The licence is stored on the ecu. You may get a reciept from the mapper for the work done but you dont get a licence in paper form. Its a code stored on the ecu thats read by the mapper using the ecutek tool.

Is it a Subaru dealer?
Who re-built the engine?
Does the warranty cover the fact it's been re-mapped?

Cheers thanks very much for the replays, stops me phoning up and looking like an idiot.

As far as the new engine the dealer told me they fitted it themselves for the previous owner and they arranged the remap. Yes it is a Subaru dealer very reputable from what hear.

Thanks again

If it's a "franchise dealer" and you have a Subaru Proven Warranty then the remap will invalidate any claim for any engine damage. If it's an after market specialist then you may be lucky.

You should also have an itemised sheet with all the parts used/replaced/consumables etc. My engine was rebuilt by a franchise Subaru garage and I have 2x A4 pages of itemised bill.

Correct.
I was sold a Subaru proven car with proven warranty. The car had an after-market exhaust, sport cat and re-map when purchased. Some time later my engine suffered ring-land fractures so the car was returned to a local subaru dealer for the repair to be carried out under warranty. Subaru proven refused the claim due to modifications. Fortunately for me after some discussion with the dealer they agreed to pay for my car to be recovered from the local dealer and repaired. They agreed to ensure no further issues were experienced due to the modifications on the car they sold me forging was the way forward
I was lucky that the dealer i purchased from admitted fault and done right by me without the need for legal action. Dealers are not allowed to issue Subaru proven warranty's on modified or re-mapped cars.

Thanks for the information, I won't go naming them online but they are definatly a main dealer with very very good reviews on here and other places. Touch wood there won't be an issue but if one occurs i will have to deal with it then and when. But thanks for the information guys and I'm sure i will be wanting a forged rebuild in the future anyway.

Thank you

Well the ecutek licence is £150 + vat to buy but if you fitted an ecu with ecutek map installed from another car you would still need it to be re-mapped for the car it's being fitted too.All you would achieve is not having to pay the licence fee again.

£200-250 top, depending on UK/JDM ECU.

license is stored on ecu, but the mapper if not the original mapper can not see what the other mapper did,(so map can not be treaked) so has to do a fresh map.

all you will save is £150

some people pay silly money for ecotek ecus but every engine and mods a differant ,

i would pay £100 and no more other wise its no cheaper than paying for a license

mine was done by zen and was £550 all in and worth every penny

As UK and JDM ECU's are different.

Mac, re. the ecu price. I bought an ECUteked ECU off here for £140 delivered, which is about the going price. With the license, an ECUtek remap is between £480-550 and a map with license, £280+ etc. Different mappers charge different amounts.

So I bought the ECU for £140 and it was £280 for a fresh custom map as the license was paid for. So £420 all in. Now if the ECU to purchase is more, obviously the saving over just mapping your ECU is smaller and more negligible.

So I'd say £140-150 is your target price.
