Default P1 engines

I am currently in the market for a new car and am considering a few cars Subaru of course.

Could anyone update me on what the main problem is with P1 engines as most seem to have had a full rebuild at some point??

If they are to much hassle I may just spend a bit more and get a 2005 to early 2006 wrx sti ppp!!

Cheers.

The main problem was the map on the majority of cars was for Jap fuel and caused det as our fuel is lower Rons. Apparently the P1 had a gadget fitted into the tank that was suppose to boost the Rons......

No difference with a P1 engine to a type R. Most have been rebuilt

And my opinion you are better off buying a TypeR anyway. More bang for your buck

Yep Id take a type R over a P1 too. Quite a bit cheaper which is money that you can improve the car with.

Most Impreza's will, as they get chavved, trashed and crashed. They where only going to do 500 but the demand pushed it to 1000. Similar numbers to V-Ltd cars but these are rarer still as they where import only.

Mines done 60k , various track days and the ring last year. Still going strong mate. I have done a few bits to ensure longevity but don't we all.

Type R's and p1's both have plus points I think a p1 will become a true future classic.

P1's had briquetes in the tank to deal with jap 100 ron fuel vs uk at 97 at the time. They didn't last long leading to det issues as noted above. Get a rebuilt one and there should be no issues. Stunning looking cars after all.

I have been checking up on one on ebay its £7000 and only 64k miles 2001 plate.

Im just checking up on the service history as owner seems a little sketchy on this.

It seems good value at this price and mileage and should go up in value.
