Default Shade of gold for wheels?

Ok guys, I've decided that I'm not keen on the darker gold on my wheels. I'll leave on this set for my winter wheels, but for my other set I want an original shade of gold. I've found a powder coater who powder coats clear coat, then sprays any paint colour you wish, then powder coats clear coat on top. This way you can have an exact colour match.

So, my choices are...

BBS Gold Dupont F9657 which is standard for STi's 2003-2005ish

or

Akzo Nobel 7E81208 which is lighter and is used on Speedlines and Prodrive PFF7's

Thoughts?

If it helps the Subaru paint code for the BBS gold is GK1.

Thanks for that, I reckon I need to compare pics of the two different golds. Who would have thought it was so difficult.

They look superb, and not that dark. I think the Speedline colour would look too light compared to this. Obviously the flash will have lightened the picture, but they look exactly the colour I was wanting.

What's the difference between the code GK1 and the Dupont code, different paint manufacturers?

Did you have your painted or powder coated?

Thanks for the pics, appreciated.

I recently had my Redlines refurbed and changed the colour at the same time, admit it was from gold to matt gun metal but that was only because I didn't like the look of the OZ gold which appeared much darker in shade, I prefer the lighter. Show us a picture of the result matey

They are painted as the finish I believe is far better than powder coating, the GK1 code is what Subaru use but any good paint shop or supplier can cross refer to their own paint scheme to get you the right colour - the Dupont code may well be correct for Subaru GK1.

If you are going for the same gold as in the pics go for a high gloss lacquer as in matt they look a bit pants, the high gloss makes the paint 'pop'. I had them refurbished twice as I didn't like the lacquer finish as I chose a low gloss finish first time and then had them redone in high gloss.

Here's what they looked like originally at the top, and the colour I've just had done. It's too dark, almost like a Caramac colour. What colour does the top wheel look like? I thought it had been painted by a smart repair sort of crowd... Or is that original?

Cheers mate, I've been speaking to a local guy...

http://www.wheelproscotland.co.uk/

who does wet paint with a powder clear top coat. His example wheels look stunning. I'm hoping this gives the best of both worlds.

I've had a look at the website and their work looks excellent, they certainly look like a very good operation.

I'm not sure even the top wheel is the correct shade of gold, mind you compared to the lower wheel it's a lot better.

The lower wheel looks like it's almost verging on a very orange shade of gold and definitely needs changing.

How positive are you that this is the correct colour code for the pff7s, as I'm having so much trouble getting some to do an exact colour match.

Only what I've gleaned from the t'internet. It's apparently a Speedline colour , and they made the wheels for Prodrive I believe?

Subaru uses three shades of gold for their wheels

Gold BU0483 (1998-2008)

BBS Gold GK1 (2006)
