just for interest's sake. here in SA fully synthetic gets too thin on warm days, so the Scoobies here like the semi-synthetic stuff.

I am new on here but I run a small repair shop. I have just taken on selling this new high performance oil additive, it adds something like 20-25 bhp to the engine by reducing internal friction, you simply add it to your engine oil and it last 20k miles,,,change your oil at normal intervals but only add this every 20k miles, to new or old oil doesnt matter...at 27 quid its worth it for sure, cheapest way to get 20 plus bhp I know of...I am doing a dyno test run on the stuff next week to see this evidence myself...will post once its done...

If these oil additives were any good then the oil companies would use them. Stick with a good brand of oil and you cant go wrong

It is but it would be overkill on a Classic with that sort of mileage. Semi synthetic 10w 40 will be fine although I've heard Imprezas don't like Castrol Magnatec.

The problem is this "film" builds up over time on turbocharger seals, forcing them apart and causing the turbo to pass oil.

Magnatec will generate black sludge faster than a 1987 Ford Escort 1600 CVH!

it may be better than this oil additive, it did absolutely nothing to the performance whatsoever.. perfromance ford used the same stuff and were supposed to get 28bhp more out of an ST....I certainly did not...it may have been a tad smoother and it may have been a tad easier to rev but it was certainly no realistic quicker...

got to say oil additives so far do not work, just like the slick 50 of old..they make the claims but they do not work...

so if anyone tells you different get them to ask me, I have done the tests and it peformed worse, interesitng info, with slick 50 they found more metal particulate in the oil suggesting that the engine was wearing faster with it that without it..

ptfe is crap for engines...even tefal say that, they invented the stuff...

Just a hint of exageration there, I feel!
Magnatec meets the relevant anti-black sludge spec. If you get sludge in a modern engine there's something amiss with the breather system, which incidently, was the main culprit with the CVH.

You were probably wise to stick with what's been used before (semi-synthetic?) There was a time when it was inadvisable to change to a full-syn. in a high mileage engine due to the possibility of dislodging any deposits that may lurk in a corner somewhere! Not sure that really applies these days as good quality semi-syn won't cause deposit build-up.

Not too surprised TBH. I work for a major engine manufacturer and they will not endorse ANY oil additive. Just stick to a good oil and you shouldn't go far wrong.
