Default How to tell - euro / jap import on 04 wrx

Looking at various cars but am being refused insurance quotes an the bases that they might be imports!

Vin numbers on Japs I believe to be different

can I tell a euro import by the vin

what vin numbers do I need to look for on euro / jap cars?

Cheers

Try a specialist insurer, insuring imports isn't the struggle some people would have you believe!

Jap imports don't have a vin, just a chassis number and there is no difference in spec in the euro imports(Malta etc..) so shouldn't effect insurance premium, The last bugeye i had was a euro import, Has a different colour service book to the UK.

all cars have a VIN (vehicle identification number)...............

easiest way to tell is Euro spec cars have a long VIN number approx 17digits whereas JDM cars are only about 8-10 digits long......

Euro imports shouldnt matter, as theyre the EEC equivilent and dont have extra BHP, mines a deutch import and Admiral charged me the same amount as for a UK 2000 turbo. Also the V5 gies it away, has overseas stamped onto the front and inside has very few details on the left hand column

2 pot front brakes and single rears are normally a good sign and the stalks being opposite to UK cars too

Ask the seller, they cant hide it when the V5 clearly states it, another way to tell is put the plate into a free car check, and if its an import i think it will only say its a subaru, and the model (impreza) will be blank

A quick check would be to check the sun visor to see if the info is in Japanese. I know you can change then but it's another check.

Not strictly corrct Alyn. a VIN conforms to an ISO specification, whereas the chassis / identity number found on JDM models does not. The Japanese manufacturers arent obliged to follow the ISO convention for domestic market vahicles.
