tracker subscription
Hello,
I have a tracker in my car and the insurance company will only cover theft of the car if the tracker is activated.
Im new to trackers, do I have to use the company who fitted my tracker device (also called Tracker I think) or is there competitors?
Im waiting for them to call me back but what is a good price?
Thanks,

Im surprised that a tracker is needed for a 9 year old scobby but even if the tracker costs 100 / year it still a lot lot cheaper than using the 2 year no claims that I have built up.

As ts already installed there's no harm in seeing how much the owner transfer will cost, I pay monthly with mine but I had the option of paying a lump sum of three years and covers your time with the car which makes sense if you intend to keep the car for longer, just means you need the funds to begin with!

If it's an RAC Trackstar, you'll have to pay for the whole subscription, you can't just transfer the ownership details. I seem to recall mine cost £420 for lifetime cover last November. Like your car, I bought one already fitted with it and that price was just to put my name on the certificate and re-activate it.
A nice little earner for the RAC that one.
Have a hunt around on Google though and you might get a new one fitted, with you as the subscriber, for less than that.

My Trackstar was about £130 for 12 months last year, brought my insurance down from £1,200 to £650 though.
A ''lifetime'' subscription isnt worth it imo unless you're certain you're going to be keeping your car longer than 3 years, its only in your name and not transferable to any new owner

Mine doesn't either (through Keith Michaels). I had to start from scratch with my Impreza as a second car last November, paying £1250 even with the Tracker, and I'm old and live in the sticks!
I just hope it comes down considerably this time round.

That's useful to know, thank you.
But if they're not on their database to start with (ie JDM), they won't cover them even if they're standard (although I'd be very happy to be proved wrong about that).

I think Admiral and Direct Line both do something that is the equivalent (admiral I think you have to have been with for a year or two though). Not sure but there must be others!

Amazing logic, but that's some insurers for you.
The previous owner of mine said that they didn't get it activated as if some thieving scumsucker (anyone else remember 'Sledgehammer'?) had taken the car and thrashed it to death, they wouldn't want it back. I can quite understand that viewpoint.

Here's a thought for you... My insurers (Direct Line) would only insure me if I had a tracking device fitted.
After checking I found out that Direct Line actually own Tracker. Surprise surprise. Anyway, Tracker is the only device that is used by ALL the UK Police Forces so I decided to go with it.
I paid the cost, after telling Tracker that I was with Direct Line, no discount mentioned. As I finished the phone call I joked about I reckon I should get a discount for being with Direct Line as they were Trackers owners. Quick as a flash the girl offered me a £150 discount, no haggling or anything. Why couldn't she have mentioned that before??? Mmmm..
Anyway, I changed insurance recently as Direct Line were a bit expensive. I did the Go Compare things and saved about £150.
UPDATE: Today my fuel pump packed in and I had to get a low loader home, after 1hr 15 mins Tracker phoned me to tell me my car was suspiciously moving. I had forgot to tell Tracker, but it took 1 hour and 15 minutes to alert me????? FFS my car would have been in bits after that time. Tracker are now sending out their engineer to check the install, which is only 2 months old.
