Default How much to forge an engine DIY?

Hi Chaps,

i was just after a ballpark figure of costs if i wanted to forge me own engine DIY style? Machining would have to be paid for.

I think i need a new project, either boost my m3 or always wanted to build my own engine.

What do you think £2k on top of the engine if i self assemble?

So looking at more like 3k.

It seems you can get a newage for 5k these days. might be cheaper to just get one of them and shuv it in a classic

how much are newage boxes and diffs etc going for these days?

Forging an engine will give you wider option if you wanted to go for more BHP, newage engine will be fine upto 400 maybe more depending how the engines have been looked after.

6speed £1700 - £2000 again depending on condition and milage ( non DCCD ).

Injectors 840cc

Turbo wise, very wide option to choose from mate and price can vary.

Hmm, I've been looking at the E61 M5's lately, and they're some car for sure, but they weigh a *lot* (kerb weight 1855 / 1955 kg for the saloon / touring)

For twisty stuff, I'd rather drive a scoob tbh, but I'd love the pace to boot ratio of the M5 Touring for the straighter stuff
