Performance exhaust and better M.P.G.???????
#1
Anyone else noticed an improvement in feul consumption with putting on a performance exhaust as I can't work itr out myself.
Was getting about 230 - 250 mile from a tankful in a MY02, put on the new cat back exhaust and not only dodes it sound better (shock horror suprise) and I thrash it more to hear the sound, but it is now giving on average 265 - 290 per tank of SUL.
I've run it for the first 3000 miles with the standard zorst and the last 2000 miles with the new zorst - so it's not an anomoly of the type of driving I do (mainly motorway and b-roads with a few gratuitous laps of the local roundabout and some town work thrown in) as this is the average
Anyone else had similar results???

Yep Hooley, its true and normal
By fitting a decent exhaust, you are improving the efficiency of the engine. That's where the extra power comes from. If you drove it hard before you fitted the exhaust and drive it hard afterwards, you will see typically 10-20 miles more out of a tank.
If you drive like a wuss, you won't see any improvement above your figures for wuss driving with the standard exhaust

I have Scoobysports 3/4 to remove the final cat, works a treat, get about 265 out of a tank avrage.
Nocks on the rear axile when warm though, maybe Betts' in MK did not fit it right. Off to TSL to see if they can do a better job.
Pete, have you had this comment b4?

Hi Steve
Yes, its not common but has happened before. Its important that it is at the correct rotation where the centre meets the dp.
The latest units have a revised pipe route to give more tolerance.

Cheers Pete.
I see TSL do your stuff (correct?) so I will ask them to have butchers. The zorst is only 7 months old. If it persists I will think about getting the revised one.
Can't believe I have stuck it out this long. Time flies when having fun though!

If anything I am now 'foot flat to the floor' more than before,
as the sound is now more enticing.
But the consumption thing evades me how the standard box, is supposedly tuned for emmissions and sound pollution, that with a slight sound increase - not too loud a zorst - you can get better fuel consumption - ergo you must be doing something better for the planet
Subaru PR where are you??? - fit all Scooby's with this type of exhaust and the government ecconomy figures are improved - completely mad.
Who's for a blitz/hyper/magnex as standard on all scooby's??

My actual exhaust was bought 2nd hand from a fellow scoobynetter who lived 2 mile from my house - he'd just bought a scoobysport exhaust to replace his.
The exhaust is a custom made exhaust by a bristol based company called Powerflex - (not the same company as the makers of suspension bushes) They have standard back boxes and make up the tubing to fit.
But by the responses here almost any freer flowing exhaust seems to help.
(or could it be that the louder exhausts are soooooo loud that they slow the driver down thereby increasing fuel economy) Just a thought.
