Default Top Mount Knock

Hi,

WRX STi Spec D 07/07 24k miles.

I'm pretty sure that I can here my N/S/R top mount knocking, and there was an advisory on the last MOT (3/5/12) @ 21 k miles.

The advisory note says "Nearside rear (inner inner strut) shock absorber has a slightly worn shock absorber pivot [2.7.4]

So, with that said, does the tester mean top mount? I'm not entirely sure what I can hear knocking, but I can hear something, and I'm sure it's suspension related.

Any ideas?!

Many thanks,

Matt

The shocks on this model are prone to knocking, some grease may help for a while but it will return

Ok, cool. But I would rather fix the problem straight away permanently. Do you know what part that is likely to need replacement?

Join the club pal,the suspensions rubbish on these things, you can only replace is via Subaru , or it's the dreaded coilovers. You can strip, regrease and fit a grease nipple, that's the way forward I think.

I don't think a grease nipple & packing the strut with grease is the way forward!

The Bilstein struts on the RB320, suffered the same knocking as all the OE Newage strut. However, Bilstein re-worked the strut adding a 'third' bearing, which has worked & i've not heard of a re-worked strut failing AT ALL.
Simon from Chevron Motorsport works direct with Bilstein and is the man to speak to!!

Are the Bilstein's compatible with my OE springs / mounts etc?
Where would a third bearing go?

Not sure, but I doubt it! As the RB320 is lowered compared to the standard Type Uk STi.
The 'third bearing' is a modification the inner workings of the strut itself. That's about as technical as I can get!!
