Forged engine advice please
I am thinking of taking my scoob off the road for a year and going for a forged engine build. I do need some advice though, is it just a case of having the old pistons and conrods removed and new ones put in? (along with acl bearings), or is it much more complicated? Are forged engines more reliable? Is there an idiots guide out there somewhere? The car will have supporting mods to go over 400bhp, (jdm bug sti). Is there any parts that can be reused from my current standard engine? Thanks guys

Contact David at API, he will point you in the right direction. If you're going for a rebuild to that extent then I would suggest a 2.1 build as it will help you achieve 400+ easily with supporting mods/turbo.

Thanks for the advice hamster, Im a bit reluctant to speak to the big tuner's, the work will be done at a garage in Scotland, so I dont want to waste the time of API, Engine Tuner etc as due to my location they wont be getting the work, maybe its just me, but I dont think its very nice to get advice from them and go elsewhere.

Cheers jayallen, Im thinking of longevity, she is coming up to 70k, so was hoping to get another 30k - 40k of serious abuse before the car dies, will be getting a run about for during the week, scoob on weekends.

Your original engine could possibly stick more power, or not, depending on its condition!
We have run a number of new age STi engines at around 450 bhp, but that doesn't necessarily mean anyone can get away with that every time.
If you decide to go for a new forged engine, or short block even, give me a call and I can quote you. We can deliver anywhere.

Many thanks Alan, in your opinion what would be the most cost effective method? I would like to use as many parts from my current engine as possible. Is it simply a case of dropping in new bearings, pistons and rods? PS also, the spark plugs on the passenger side a oily, is this a sign of impending doom?

Guys my worst fear has been confirmed, my engine is not well at all, leak down test showed 40% leakage at cylinder 1, with out stripping the engine the engine the garage are saying its most likely a piston ring issue.
So it looks as though she will have to come off the road.
The 2.1 build is very interesting, I was hoping some members with this build could give me an insight in to how it performs, which components to go for, idea of cost etc.
I have seen this package on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Com...item51a07052f2
Is it a good deal, should I be going for over size bearings? I have been told the MAhle pistons can be a bit noisy and CP is the way to go.
Opinions and advice will be much appreciated.

Hi there
We are running 2.1L with MDX321T and spools really nicely,we are running on the V-power 452bhp and on the V-power and 20% methanol we are running 490Bbhp,we are think 500bhp is possible on this turbo
This stroker is OK,similar rods we are running, just would add there 12mm ARP studs for piece of mind, about the pistons, would go with Cosworth,Cosworth head gasket set and uprated Oil pump, plus water pump...

We haven't found Mahle pistons to be at all noisy, relatively.
We frequently build short motors for those who don't want the complications of having to oversee the machining or worry about getting it right or even clean enough.
If you'd be interested in a quote for a built short block, give me a PM?
This is the finish we build them to.
