The great mapping rip off
First off this applies to bug onwards
And I'm not gonna be flavour of the month with this one with some folks
And I'm not after causing trouble
But I can't bite my tongue any longer
You are getting ripped off big time with mapping
You are led to believe the the Minit you touch your ecu it will blow up ( it won't )
Tweaks £150 mapping 3/400 plus wtf
Now I stress if you've got to pay for your dyno then I understand you have to Charge that little bit more
But if your not , you're charging too much (you know it )
Since I've started I've realised (as have other members )
That it's not the black art it's purported to be
Tactrix £160
W/b 02 £150
Software free
And you can tweak or map as much as you like , when you like
you can do it cheaper in certain cases
We've got guys on here that are swapping turbos , building motors , doing all the mechanical mods , so theyre not stupid
So why on earth are people not waking up to the fact you can map or tweak your own car
With no more risk than you decide to take
It's not hard , it's not risky ,
When every other post is ( you need it mapped or tweaked)
I find it so hard to understand why folks don't get into it
Come on guys wake up , open your eyes
Youre being had

Already have a copy of ECUflash(free download) Evoscan(EVO logging software £16 downloaded) and have been logging with a cheap VAG 409.1 cable(£6.99 from ebay)
There are plenty mapping forums out on the world wide web with more info than you can shake a stick at..

wheres the popcorn lol
yes some prices are crazy but the people who do can charge what they want, if the uk was filled with plenty of mappers then im sure prices would come down but with little competition and not everyone able to understand how it works/confident to do it on there own cars then its not a lot for the car to run right and peace of mind,

Do you think you could get the same out of your car while keeping it safe like Simon, Paul, Andy or Bob could just to name a few.
We all want the best map available, if paying £150 means I'll get that then Im happy to pay it instead of bringing it to you for an "ok'ish" map and keeping a few quid in my pocket. They have reputations for a reason, it's because they are good at what they do.

£300 for mobile remap is rip off in my opinion , if the mapper spent a whole day on it then you wouldn't mind so much or if they had there own premises/dyno ,
+ they all have a base map for most cars , so they are only tweaking it realy , not saying they are not skilled or good at what they do , but £300 for 2 hours is a rip off IMHO
peopl only pay it because they don't have much choice and are pleased with the results they get ,
when I used to own evo's mappers seemed alot cheaper , it only seems to be subaru mappers charging these high prices,

at the end of the day you are buying the experience of the mapper not the fact that they can map, its those little tweeks that make the best mappers stand out.
so its like saying you can have me with no experience to do a do it yourself map on a car or one of the top mappers
just as you can have an unknown backstreet garage that work on every car under the sun to do your engine rebuild or one of the top engine builders that are known for their subaru rebuilds.
im sure that the car will possably run in both the above instances, however Im fairly sure the examples with little or no experience have a very good chance of the big bang theory comming into play

My car is 10years old , OS mapped by a reliable person 4months now. If it blew up tomorrow would he fix it FOC ? . . . . .i'm not so sure.

Im sure building a brick wall is not rocket science either. The the wall built by the experienced bricky will look better and stand up to more of a kicking.
If i had a cheap car i would be temped to have a play and build knowledge and experience but when i comes to my beloved RB320 i would rather pay a professional.

But the fact is if we are led to believe its an impossible task to learn and people won't bother
But the more that do the better ,
The more you do the more you learn
