Default Gearbox query

Hiya, while I was working abroad Dad borrowed my car and was unlucky enough to have the gearbox fail on him.
My car's code on the chassis is TY754VN2AA
He bought a gearbox off of ebay code TY752VN3BA and I don't think it's running right with my car, can someone confirm for me that it's not the right gearbox or should it be ok?

Did they change the rear diff to match because those 2 boxes have different differential ratios http://www.gearhack.com/myink/ViewPa...ission%20Chart

the TY752 box is from an early Impreza and requires a 4.111 rear diff, the one in your car was/is a 3.900

Awesome thank you, so this would cause juddering and some horrible noises i guess??
I took it for a test run and quickly cut it short and came home as I'm getting a lot of noises?!

Yes it will because it's winding up the centre differential and it'll damage the gearbox if you continue to use it

I've had this before where I was sold a rear differential that turned out to be not what it was sold to be and it caused awful juddering at 60mph

The TY752 is also a weaker box and shorter gear ratios.

Would it damage the diff at all? I don't mind about the gearbox getting wrecked as long as my cars ok when the right one goes in!

No it shouldn't damage the rear differential but it won't be doing the centre one or the gearbox much good.

Any idea why the TY754 failed?

I bought the car crash damaged and one of the things I changed was a driveshaft that had taken a large bulk of the hit, I think that shunt probably went through the gearbox a bit too and it finally gave up!
Fingers crossed the next one will be ok!
