Default Which sti should I get?

Hi guys, I own a 2004 plate Wrx and after many questions about mods have decided modding isn't worth while when I can now afford an sti somewhere around the 8500 mark give or take.
ppp or standard?
2003/2004 or 2005 wide track (don't know what this means ?.)

What would you get and why , any help would be great because the urge to buy one is killing me ,but want to get the best option . Thanks .Tom

I would go for and did go for a 05 JDM STi wide track.. Why because the twinscroll setup is great, it has a stronger engine and feels good owning something abit rarer than ya average type uk!

As above mate, The MY05 is a better standard car than the MY03/04 as a UK version and the JDM(Japanese Domestic Market) is better still, Wide track means the car is slightly wider at the axles, They have larger/stronger hubs and come with DCCD_A as standard(Drivers conrol centre diff) which means you can adjust the drive/power to the rear to(64% Rear/ 36% Front), Rather than having a 50/50 split, Makes entertaining driving in the right conditions

Good luck, Gaz.

Thanks for the advice ,I think I will be getting a uk model, what are the average servicing costs of an sti , are they much more costly than a Wrx .?

There will be a difference in some of the serviceable items, Eg. Clutch and Brake Pads which can be a bit dearer but most of the other items like Plugs, Filters, Fluids are the same, Tyres as standard are virtually the same size between the models too.

The only thing better with a UK STI over a JDM is the burble.

Yes but the scream of a twinscroll makes up for the loss of burble. I also went widetrack jdm and have no regrets.

And the rust prevention, gearing and dealer support especially if there's a re-call.

if you get a uk make sure its a 2.0 dont bother with the 2.5 or you will be finding out how good the dealer support is

Ok before the twinscroll fan club come along in the masses and state how good it is over the singlescroll found in the UK cars, please please please go and test drive both. I didn't and bought the twinscroll and sold it six months later. Don't get me wrong it was a very capable car, virtually no lag but the power felt very linear and this will sound strange but dull to drive. (Flame suit activated)

Rust prevention, Do it yourself if you want a heavy car

Hands up who bought there scooby for driving down the motorway......Point made

There are virtually no dealerships left now anyway

Not having a pop at anyone here just pointing out that if thats all the issues the JDM has over a UK car, The positives way out number the negs

Gaz.

Agree with this 100%.
Don't get me wrong, the JDM cars are amazing machines, the response with the twin scroll is mega but as above, they just don't kick like a single scroll car. Side by side the JDM would be the quicker car (in OE spec) but I think how the car makes your feel is very important.

The heads are the same casting Tubbs albeit a little porting to the JDM heads which i suspect is carrried out during the engine build process....Obviously the cams are different(high rpm)

From what i have found the cranks in the MY03-MY05 cars jdm/uk have a different part number...not sure why, crossdrilled/nitrided maybe....but the rods/pistons in the same model years are the same...jdm sti/spec c and type uk.

The info is readily available on the net from Subarus own part number catalogue

Ha brilliant gas that made me chuckle. No I didn't buy my impreza for that solely but I did buy it as my everyday car and that sometimes means motorway driving among other things not always track use, to that the UK 6 speed in my opinion is better suited to our roads, the jdm box has a shorter gearing through out and personally with having a jdm sti a jdm box in a 480bhp classic, then a UK 6 speed in a p1 and mu current UK hatch sti I personally find the UK 6 speed better for day to day use................point made ;-)

Now the positive v neg the twin scroll / single scroll is a matter of personal choice.....the added electric mirrors etc who cares its not the be all and end all making the jdm's better, oh and the stronger engine in fairness is a myth to a degree as there are plenty of people running 450bhp on standard UK internals so that is that knocked out the window.

I'm sure there is more the jdm has over the UK counter part but nothing that in my opinion makes it leaps and bounds ahead of a UK car once you take out the turbo set up which you have three people on this thread saying they to didn't like it over the UK set up.

Again no offence to yourself or any other jdm fans but I think its horses for courses.
