Default Buying a 04 Blob with towbar

What are the concerns regarding buying a Blob eye with a tow bar fitted.
I have no idea what it has pulled or for how long it has been fitted.

Is it a wise idea to buy it or go elsewhere.

Garage mentioned they replaced the bearing in the gearbox as apparently it was making a noise. Common problem they said.

Is this something to do with the towbar purhaps ?

Cheers

Avoid it,It could of been used to pull god knows what.
There are plenty out there (most infact) without a tow bar.

+1 these cars are not usually owned by a retiree who tows his shoe-box sized trailer to the tip once every six months. Likely used for towing something much heavier...walk away, plenty about...

+2. Any car with a towbar walk away. They all say the same - its only towed a trailer once on a 300 mile trip, or something similar.

Clutch maybe well worn.
Check for missing rubber plugs in the boot area against the bumper/lights that could cause leaks. Chances are leads/electrics may have been run through the boot.

Be prepared to travel if you want a good one, it's well worth it in the long run.

My old Blob had a tow bar from new and it was never used. I sold the car with the tow hook still in it's original bag, all fitted by the dealer with no dodgy wiring.
I wouldn't automatically dismiss a car with a tow bar.

Indeed. They make excellent rear parking sensors too!

We had one fitted to our Zafira and it really did get used once to tow a bike trailer.

Before you dismiss it, use it as a lever to get the price down. Dealers remove them when they get them the first instant they can.

Bloody norah, talk about harbingers of doom and gloom.

I fitted towbars to loads of cars, even my sti type r, i like motor bikes and go trail riding and have a decent size garden, as well as mountain bikes, so a towbar is essential.

You don't pull a horse box or 5m caravan with a scoob, so i would not let it put me off, and it was probably used a couple of times a year, not every day, i'd be more concerned about what fuel was used and how often it was serviced and which oil was used if i were you.

Go take a look, you don't have to buy it.

Go see it!

I fitted one on my WRX for my bike rack, also worth noting that it can't handle much weight without 18's rubbing the wheel arches, so if you're concerned check the arch liner.

I had issues this weekend with 3 bikes on the back, so unlikely to be used to tow caravans too often!

Has it got double electrics fitted ? That could narrow it between a trailer or a caravan, does the tow ball look warn ? There could be a simple answer as well like the tow bar I fitted the my Golf as all that has ever done is carry a mountain bike.

We used to tow our 16.5 fletcher GTO with a 90hp o/b with 'single electrics', the best part of a tonne with the trailer...apart from the towing to and from water the tow vehicles used to get serious abuse getting the boat in and out of the water on steep, wet and slippery slipways

If you are really keen then ask the dealer for the number of the previous owner and speak to them about it's history. If they do not have this info then i would walk away as there is not way of telling what or how often it has been used for towing.
