Just wanted to know what this model was like in comparison to the 2003 wrx sti. Do you have use super? It's just that super is a pain over here. Would have travel 20 mile before I got a station that sells it. Sorry guys for asking so many questions. Don't want to rush in and buy something that I don't know about. Are these models just as reliable as the 2003 wrx sti. Thanx

If it is 300hp that would indicate a remap, so yes super.

The type-r will be a totally different animal to the '03 STI. Less weight, more excitement!

I would want to see the milage and some damn good history too tho!

Well I have had mine best part of 6months and had no major problems *TOUCHWOOD* so far, but I treat it very well, oil changes galor!

You could map it to run on 95ron (standard petrol), the cost however I am unsure of, if it has been mapped before then you don't have to pay the licence fee (I would check with owner as he might just be saying it is 300bhp because he feels like it!) and it should be £200-£300? Don't quote me on that! I think the licence fee is about £150.

I would confirm what has been done with the old owner and check with a good mapper from round your area.

Always worth posting a pic or two, someone might know the car and be able to give you some history!

i think its a bit dearer than that rob, i think its more like 500 all in.

check for crash damage, rot and the dreaded big ends. check for clues off the owner, is it looked after, does he use good oil, what has he done about running it on crap petrol etc etc

I just checked out the site and it looks like the price is good and from the pictures it looks clean.
When you go to view it I'd ring the seller and ask him to not warm the engine up if possible so you can hear it from a cold start.
Pull the dipstick and check if the oil is still golden and not black. If its black give it a change.
When you test drive it give it some boost in the higher gears to make sure it boosts ok with no smoke.
When you check the fluids see if there's coolant in the water and that it looks clean.

I've had mine for over a year now and I couldn't be happier. You're going to love it.
Good luck with the purchase.

Danny.

The type r is deff a very diffrent animal to the 2003 sti you get more feel for driving experiance with a type r, i had a 99 version 6 from api engines and owned it for a year and half it was always serviced by api and it was by far the best car i have ever owned, i had a tear in my eye when i had to sell her but needs must at the time but i would buy another one tomorrow if i could. i never had any engine problems in all the time i owned it apart from Using Maff sensors but that was due to The apexi ecu and mushroom air filter but when it was mapped by Andy forest it was perfect again. you could alway run octain booster until you can get it mapped. good luck there great cars.

depends if it was converted when it was imported. If it has an mph sticker on the speedo its likely to have been fitted with a converter, but check the mileage of when it came into the country, then the mileage now and do the maths. If only the 1st 10,000 were in kms then you've got an 86000 miler.
