emissions test
Hi all.
Took the scoob for mot test last week and it failed on the emissions due to having a full decat exhaurst on it. Now i have been told my car is supposed to have 2 cats on it. My question to you guys(any mot testers out there)is can i getaway with only putting one cat on(the centre section one)as i dont want to have to buy both cats. Would one cat be enough to get it though the retest. oh by the way its a 97 t2000 wagon. thanks phil
results of test if it helps anyone, maximam allowed is 0.30 and mine was 0.89

I think you'll be needing to fit both cats for mot, the criteria is on a vehicle the requires a cat emissions test, a cat should be fitted where they are fitted as standard. If that makes sense. Basically a car leaves the factory with 1/2/3 cats they all should be present for mot.
2 nd hand cats are a bit dubious, to be fair. How are you going to know if it works? You could take a punt! It may come good then again!

2nd cat
you could try fitting only a centre cat if you can find one and the tester doesnt realise there is a front downpipe cat too.
The problem is unless you can get that cat extremely hot it wont be effective enough to pass emmisions levels due to its location.
ive only the front one in mine and its 0.00 co when tested.

My classic passed its MOT on just the centre cat for around 8 years without any probs. Just stick the centre cat on before the MOT (half hour job if that) take the car out and get it up to full temp with a spirited drive then go straight to the MOT station. Most MOT places will stick it on the emissions tester first. Job done!

befour i took it to the mot station i had a word with the tester guy befour hand and he said he would turn a blind eye to the emissions but when i got there it must of been his time of the month cos he gave it a right looking over and when he could not find anything wrong wi it cos its clean he picked on me with the emissions.
