New shocks needed for 06 STi - Which ones?
Hi all. After a lot of thought, I've decided I don't want to replace my shocks with coilovers. We plan on doing a 3000 mile euro trip at the end of the summer, which has really put me off.
So what are the choices available to me? Who makes replacement shocks? How much are OEM? Which are the best?

I think they are uprated over the standard sti or at least on a par with them and they are specifically for lowering springs. i just used my standard springs as i like my comfort more than looks

Oh dear. I spoke to Camskill:
Hello,
I just wanted to find out if you are able to get the front KYB ultra gold shocks for the 2.5 Impreza STi (2006), as you only list the rears on the site?
Many thanks,
Jay

Or go coilovers? You can get ones that are not too harsh.
There's no point going OEM for them to break again down the line. That's what i was told cause I need to replace my rear shocks due to knocking.

Well I was put off coilovers because I think they will still be too harsh for a big trip like I have planned, and also the setup costs ontop of the purchase price. Regular shocks wouldn't need that.
Unfortuantely the price isn't going to be much different the way it's going.

This might help: https://www.scoobynet.com/suspension...dm-shocks.html
All Sti's after 2005 have 5x114 hubs so blob/bug eye ones won't fit (the rear may fit but the fronts at least won't).
And you are right not listening to all the hype about coilovers, been there done that and after a rebuild (due to a leak) they only became worse. Not all coilovers are bad of course, horses for courses.
From the cars I have driven/had a ride in with coilovers (AST's, Tein and Aragosta Monocero), the Aragostas were the best for my liking, handle well and ride quality is also good.
I have not been in a car with BC's though.
For a (fast) road car all you need is a good set of dampers and some springs (Sti pinks, Prodrive, Eibach) the handling will be transformed.
Also I just found out by reading in the Suspension thread that Bilstein do dampers and springs 1,395 fully fitted from Litchfield

But all STi's have 5x114.3 PCD don't they? So surely they should all fit?
If the Ultra SR KYB's would fit all round, I would take those. Surely the Blob STi ones would be fine? Not sure if I would need post 05 wider track ones though?
Those Bilsteins sound good but for the price, I dunno..... it seems a hell of a lot.
