Default Mje_Wrx you bloody scammer ! I want my money back !!!

Hi Guys !
I need somebody's help with a member Mje_Wrx I bought a VF22 turbo from.*

On 8th of May I bought a turbo from this member (paid £75 through PayPal as a gift).*
Before money was sent I've asked him if it's in good condition, with no play in shaft etc. He told me that shaft is SOLID wit no play and everything is absolutely fine so we make a deal.*
Turbo arrived after 1 week on 16th but due to being on holidays I wasn't able to cellect it. I went to post office day after I came back on 24th and picked it up. At this stage problems started !

Turbo was packed in a small, plastic shopping bag and thrown in a cardboard box (no bubble wrap or any other protection at all) causing hole in packaging. After quick inspection I found out that there is a loose in shaft, not sideways but up and down, plus it has marks that somebody was trying to fix it. Straight away I've sent a text to Mje_Wrx and explained him everything asking for refund. He refused saying that I could already fit the turbo and ruined it plus he has no guarantee that it's his turbo and I could swapped it !!!
I've NEVER had any issues with people on SN till now.*

At the end he decided to close his account/profile *on SN and simply disappear !!!

Please HELP !!!
What can I do now ??!!

I can provide all text messages if needed.*

Hi, 2 sides to every story! However if yours is true then it's not good, never Paypal as gift because you have no comeback if item is not as described .The seller has indicated that he is not going to refund you so other than knocking on his door and having a polite 1 to 1 then you have lost your money.

What marks are you referring to?
There shouldn't be SIGNIFICANT play in the shaft, but a little bit isn't necessarily a problem. Do you mean up and down, or in and out?

Hi Alan,
If you look at the picture, under the nut a piece/chunk of aluminium is missing. It looks like somebody was trying to hold by this bit and screw it up tighter if you know what I mean.

I'm talking about in and out lose.

I don't have any reasons to lie, if turbo was ok I'll simply keep it.
I've text him about an hour after I picked it up from post office (which I can prove) so accusing me for damaging it while fitting is absolutely bull....

I know that turbos are not so fragile as glass but in my opinion he should put a little bit more effort in packing it.
If he was honest person, he would never quit so quick and simply ran out like a rat.
If I were him I'll be fighting and trying to prove that I'm not guilty.

Luckily not that much money I've lost.

The bit under the nut is a balance mark. Material is removed, never added!
How much in and out play is there? The thrust bearing determines the position here.

As mentioned above, the mark is where it has been balanced when built.

Chalk it down to experience and move on.

I've been had before, for £350.00 (not on here) I received a post card
Instead of the item. Paid by bank transfer instead of PayPal.

You live and learn mate, trust nobody in future when it comes to money.

You can also see some marks/scuffs on the nut. I'll take some more pictures.

Alan,
So that missing bit of aluminium is ok ?
As for amount of lose, I would say its about 1mm or maybe more. When pulling up and down you can hear slightly knocking sound.

Why are you sending gift money to a stranger on t'internet? Have a read of the sticky in the for sale section - it highlights some simple stuff to avoid scammers.

Sorry but couldn't agree more. Even if I have had dealings with a long time member that I have actually met at a meet I would still pay via paypal and insist as paid as a non gift and if I had to pay the fees then for this very reason I wouldn't mind.

I hope there is a reason for the lack of contact from the seller and between the two of you get this sorted.

Best of luck

The marks you mention are totally normal, they are merely balance marks. Every turbo I've ever seen has them.

How much play in the shaft are you talking about, a bit of up and down movement is fine, just as long as the fins don't touch the housing

With all due respect, what was you hoping for with a £75 turbo ?
And to send as gift, well, lesson learnt hey. It's been mentioned enough on here in the past about gifts etc.

It seems the guys on here seem to assume a cheap price means it must be knackered even tho the seller says its fine and are o.k with it

I do have a few sets of tyres that are very cheap if anyone wants them, 215/45/17`s, Avon etc, yours for £50 (not saying they dont have punctures but at that price, who cares huh ?

doesnt matter if it were £275 or £75, if a guy says its fine, it should be !

(not saying this turbo isnt fine, but alot of comments seem to be blaming the buyer for being a mug)

No, common sense dictates things are usually cheap for a reason and most people ask for gift payment for a reason. I'm not criticising the OP but it seems he fell for a double whammy. Oh and I'll take a pass on those tyres.

Maybe the OP should have the turbo checked over by somebody who ACTUALLY KNOWS what they are looking at before starting a thread and slagging off what could be a completely honest seller.

Rig-
Nine times out of ten items are cheap for a reason. Sometimes bargains can be had but rarely is an item thats advertised for half it's value any good.
As the old saying goes, 'you get what you pay for'.

There has been enough threads on here over the years with the same message

Don't PayPal as a gift
Yet people still do it
At least it was only £75 and not into the hundreds of pounds like many here over the years

It should always be as described Rig ...the point is at £75 you should really be thinking hmmmm! ...paypal gift....yeah go on then

It's a punt which ever way you look at it...quick sale and off we go.

Get it checked out and if you're not happy you'll easy get your money back spares or repairs on ebay..and similarly a cheap way in to a px for a proper turbo

TX.

Also you are going against PAYPAL's RULES and Terms of service by doing so. See the points highlighted in RED

They could even ban you if you demand buyers to use gift to avoid fees!!

  • For your convenience, here is the excerpted section from the User Agreement. You may not request or offer a 'gift' or 'personal payment(s) to circumvent the associated fees. This will negate any possible paypal claim!
  • 4.2 Receiving Payments for Commercial Transactions and Personal Transactions.
  • 1a. Fees depend on whether you are making a commercial transaction or a personal transaction. A commercial transaction involves buying and selling goods or services, and payments received when you send a “request money” using PayPal. A personal transaction involves sending money to and receiving money from friends and family without making a purchase.
  • 1b. If you are selling goods or services, you may not ask the buyer to send you a personal payment for the purchase. If you do so, PayPal may remove your ability to accept personal payments.
So basically moneywise your are screwed. As mentioned by other users we tell you not to use gift for a reason.

Anyway, that's assuming the turbo is knackered. However, Turbos can have play and still be serviceable...obviously how much play depends on how cheap it is as they do wear and a second hand one is obviously going to have more wear than a brand new one. I mean if the blades are hitting the housing then its proper f**ked, but if its not then it could just be a old but OK-yet-worn turbo which for £75 sounds about right.

I think you need to get the turbo looked at by somone who is experienced with them IMHO. As how much wear can be considered as still usable and serviceable is probably the main point here. Just bear in mind a turbo specialist will say any worn turbo will need rebuilding (as that's their business...£££).

why do people still get caught out like this.

send £10 as a gift you pay the fees, works out as £10.54

send £10 for goods + add paypal fees and you get buyer protection and can claim for stuff like this, it works out as £10.54

its funny that they use the same equation, SUM + 3.4%+20p (uk transactions)

its plastered everywhere on the internet. (shakes his head in disbelief !!! )

Thank You guys for all positive and negative comments.
It's not about money really but if somebody is ensuring me about product he's selling, it should be OK, no matter how much does it cost !

From the beginning £75 for vf22 was stupidly cheap for me, that's why I've asked him to double check if it's in good nick with no play etc., before I paid for it.

For all the people that saying "never pay as gift", all transactions I've made on SN so far were made via PayPal using "as a gift" option, and NEVER had any problems. It's all about trust. And please don't tell me that you have never done it ?!

Way the item was packed tells something about person selling it IMHO

I've warned him that I'll let people know about all this if we don't sort it out just between us, but he didn't care and simply gone. How does it look ???

Anyway, I will get this turbo checked by somebody that knows about turbos and will know for sure if it's good or not. I don't know much about turbos but to me lose in shaft it has is too much and it is no SOLID as he ensured me !

I think there is no more point of dragging this thread so we can close it.

Thank You
