Default Hello

Hi,
I have just joined on here and am looking for a bit of advise guys....

I am having problems which are intermitant, with my imoboliser I think.

Most of the time she starts perfectly, on the odd occasion I turn the key & there is nothing. Sometimes its when the weathers been really hot, sometimes when cold.
It can also happen when I have driven somewhere, turned the engine off for a few minutes and then tried starting it again, but again not all the time.

Any clues please? As far as I know its the same alarm/imoboliser fitted from factory.
Failing all that what am I looking at to fit new approx & any recommendations please :-)

Oh btw I own an RB5 Sport

Cheers in advance

Does it happen in the same place frequently?
Standard subaru alarms are prone to playing up with interference from varying sources such as over-head rail lines, airport satellites and other high strength radio signals.

Your best bet is to take the car to an alarm speciallist who deals in sigma systems, if not then upgrade to something decent like a Clifford (as long as the dealer knows what they are doing of course)

My classic was the same - it gave up the ghost in the short stay at Gatwick Airport! After my boss pushed me down the ramps and around the corner out of direct contact with some of the aerials, etc on the airport roof - it worked again!

Hi guys, Thanks for the responses

Perhap it may be interference averyp2, it has happened at work & in petrol stations (real effin embarassing with a queue behind ya)

Will have to investigate maybe then upgrading as Tony has suggested!!

I'm not really built to be pushing cars around WRX Blues....lol so I hope that doesn't happen to me......
Lets hope theres a bit of muscle around if it does

Cheers again

You ARE keeping your right foot well away from the throttle when starting, aren't you? If not, it will flood.

Hi alcazar,

No not putting foot on throttle, so hopefully not flooding it.

I have notice tho, that sometimes I will try starting the car with clutch down.... again turn over & there is nothing, but as I bring the clutch back up it will start!!!

Sounds a little weird with the clutch thing (I take it the Vonny stands for Evonne? ) but the classics didnt really have that much insulation to outside interference (lack of shielding on the electrics), and that alarm system could just be in need of a service (believe it or not, they do need servicing/adjusting).
Still worth having a chat with a good, local, alarm man.

Sounds like I'm being interfered with without my knowledge then & will have to increase my insulation!?! lol

All sounds too bloody complicated to me...... just want the darling to start everytime!!!

A good local alarm man............ anyone have any suggestions/recommendatons??

Cheers in advance

I had an alarm fitted last week from secure-a-car. The fitter (who seemed to know his stuff) said he was forwever being called out to Scoobys with issues on the standard sigma alarms. He said best bet was to just strip it out and replace it with a budget cat 1 alarm/immobiliser. He quoted £40 strip out of sigma plus £185 for Toad Sterling 1 Cat 1 alarm/immob and possibly £35 for door motor. So £260 fitted all in and you have a brand spanking, reliable Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser.

the fact the clutch pedal movement can make a difference and most alarms need you to depress the clutch to start it may be worth trying a new clutch switch.
