Hi all
Ok, my tyres are now past thier sell by date at 12500 miles.
I have just rung around for quotes and I dont know which to get - I want life as I am not a Roy Bacer like some of you!!
But, that said, some grip would come in handy!
Here goes, votes for one of the below please?
1. Bridgestone SO2 Pole Position @ £102
2. Michelin Pilot Sport @ £92
3. BF Goodrich @ £58 (yes, £58 all in???!!)
4. Goodyear NCT3 Eagle @ £71
5. Dunlop SP8000 @ £83
6. Toyo T1S @ £90
7. Yokahoma @ £90

I take it that is what you would vote for then??
Yes, its £102 each (will be cheaper if I do all 4!!)
I dont think I should say until I have chosen which I will fit!!

Pete,
You should go for the cheapest ones. How much grip do you need towing a caravan? . Alternatively you could buy a set of gold alloys and get decent tyres thrown in cheap...

I had a set of RE010's for 21500 miles and have since fitted a set of four SO2 PP 16" on standard rims.
They are really really good. Everyone does says however that they don't give any warning at the limit (unlike Toyo's).
Having said that I don't anyone with the SO3 tyre.

Pete
ps. this is serious, I am spending my money here - lets NOT get side tracked by the old Gold wheel chestnut! ok?

Pete, don't get the SO2's, don't get me wrong absolutly fantastic tyre, grips like anything, great in the wet, BUT life in nothing to write home about.
My worst was about 4000 miles from the fronts, 6000 miles if I swop them front to rear. But then I'm not known for hanging around.
not generally quoted in the UK, but most tyres will have a "wear rating" quoted on them somewhere in very small type. lower = wears out quicker.

I can only compare the Toyos to std as that is all I have had on my car, and they wore marginally quicker than the std tyres, a bit over 4k from the originals before grip was seriously comprimised a little over 3.5k from the toyos. They are still on the car having now done 4k, but traction is not what it should be.
If you want cheap tyres go for the cheap tyres, but it does not make sense to fit cheap tyres to a quick car IMHO.
BTW my next set will be Bridgestones so2pp or o3, once I can find somewhere to live.

I got 16,000 miles out of my previous S-02s and they still had about 3,000 left.
I changed to Toyos and find them better than the Bridgestones in the colder weather. Only one 4000 miles on the Toyos, so too early to tell wear-wise.
Also there was not a sound out of them when I had to jump on the brakes at very high speed when a VW Golf wished to get into my passenger seat.
IMHO, get the best (=wet weather grip) tyres you can afford - the life they save may be yours.

I had a quote from a tyre dealer last week for £180+VAT for SO2-PP's. I think £120 is around the usual mark.
So £102 is v.cheap.
Considered P-Zero's?

15,000 out of the std tyre. So on 2nd car sold them straight away with wheels and went for 17".
14,000 out of P-Zero's I am now on my 3rd set of P-Zero's.
7000 out of SO2's great grip but the shoulders were gone within a few thousand miles.
If you drive sensibly you should get a lot more than me.

Hi pete
If it's something slightly cheaper your after why not try some Falkens.
There not as good as so2's or toyo's but at £250 all in fitted and balanced for a set they are well worth a look.

Some interesting prices there.
A few prices from a local (SE) tyre outfit:
SO2 PPs £112
Toyo Proxy £90
Goodyear F1 £107
Pirelli P Zero £108
All include valve & balance.
BUT if you're a SIDC member 10% discount allowed!!
Unfortunately the outfit only has branches in E Anglia / SE, so check their website for details:

No you tart, the Eagle NCT3 are not what you want.
It is the Eagle F1 GS D2 with the directional tread pattern that is the bizzo.
Tyres Northampton are your men.

If it's life you want, PZeros are great (if you can stand the tramlining that kicks in when they're about 50% worn).
14,000 miles on the original RE010s, followed by 23,000 (so far) on PZeros. I think they'll be due for replacement soon, and I was going to go for T1-S or S02, but 23,000 miles on a set makes PZeros look a bargain.

I'm on SO2's and yes they are great tyres.
But if it's life you're after, stay away from them!
Mine have done about 4,000 miles and they're well past half of their life.
They've also done about 1/2 hour around Bruntingthorpe which would account for about 2000ish miles wear, especially the shoulders.
Bottom line is don't expect SO'2s to outlive the original RE010's.
If you try the PZero's or the Toyo's, please report back at some stage to let us know how you're getting on with them.
(They're top of my list for my next set.)
Cheers
Rich

Blue - where are you?
Forgive my ignorance but who makes PZeros??
I have just been working out the tyrewear numbers on the tyres and it makes very interesting reading
The SO2 Pole Position tyres get a AA for traction but a 40% lower wear rating than, say, the BFGoodrich's (which get an A for traction) this would indicate what has been said above - the SO2's while brilliant do not wear well (I personally would not like to be buying tyres every 6 months!) - annually I can cope with (its ok for you lot with Co. cars!! )

Ooh don't touch P-zeros!
Appalling lack of grip in my experience. And then you have to wait ages to wear them out after you have realised yur mistake! Teflon-tyres.
The latest directional Goodyear Eagles are supposed to be very good, these are what I wold look for.

Why do Prodrive fit PZeros to their tuned cars as std if they are cack? Do they have access to some special compounds/constructions that are badged as PZeros but are nothing like the off-the-shelf item?
