Default car is turning over but not staring.

Hey.

I have a my99 v5 Impreza sti. Today its going in for its mot. But upon starting her this morning she made a quick cough and stalled. Tried again and same thing.

But now all it will do is turn over and not start. It the first time she has done this so its a new fault. I'm a bit screwed with what to do. Rang my garage and said it might be fuel pump. I have had the car standing for two days.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Take your pick. Fuel pump, ignition/spark (lack thereof), crank voltage (weak battery) plus a number of sensors which may have gone awry. Best bet is to get her to a garage that knows Imprezas and it shouldn't take long to find the issue. Best of luck.

Well when I turn my ignition on I can hear a click coming from the front corner but I don't hear a whirring noise or anything.

I've taken my rear seats up and have played with the connector with no joy. Thou I have found 20p. Hopefully the garage guy will be down later to have a look at her.

Just annoying time to happen as it should be in for MOT. I'm just worried thats its a bigger problem.

Its not the battery for sure as its new. If its not the pump hope its a funny sensor.

i had the exact same thing happen to my MY95 WRX, it was running sweet until i laid it up, yr before last, only about 5 weeks, when i turned it over, same as yours, just turned and turned over.

i changed the fuel pump and she fired right up

strange thing is, i tested the old pump with a 12v battery and it worked.

i had no loose wires or anything

fuel pump very easy to get at, remove rear seats, remove the back part to the seats, remove the plastic partition if isnatlled and the fuel pump hatch is on the drivers side in the boot area

good luck

Yer I will have a look at my fuse box knowing my luck it will be that. Which I hope it is lol. Its been laid for two days. So its not to long.

Ive taken all my rear seats of and all seems sealed on the floor pan. So am a bit stuck as where to get to the pump. I know its on drivers side, but cnt find the hatch lol.

Add alarm/immobiliser to the list of possibles if it's got one. UK cars with the Sigma systems are starting to give up recently. If you have anything similar it may pose a similar issue.

Well hopefully the problem will be solved soon. A mechanic is coming with a spare fuel pump just in case it has gone. He said its a standard impreza pump so I guess it will be ok for my sti.

Alas she is now fixed. Mechanic came and had a look. The car tripped up a crank sensor fault. But there was now priming from the pump. So he took the pump out and connected it battery. It then started working. Reinstalled it into car and worked fine. But on safe side he did change the pump.

But once again thanks for all your help. Safed me a bit of grief.
