OK, not a whinge about the size of the thing this time - rather the daft open / lock buttons.
After a discussion with another owner who insisted that his didn't work, I finally figured it out at the weekend.
It appears that they only work on the driver's door and don't trigger the central !
As a result of not understanding this, I left my car unlocked (apart from the driver's door) for a couple of hours at the weekend.
What's the point ?
Am I missing something ?

R U sure it is working correctly because our STi key locks and unlocks the central locking. Maybe it's just another thing for the UK Car owners to complain about.

My dealer demonstrated its use when he was giving me the familiarisation tour of the car.
I've tried it and it does work - but only on the driver's door.

The key is disabled by removing the battery in order for the insurance companies to accept that the CAT 1 alarm is used, and not the normal subaru fitted piece of cr*p...If your key-fob doesn't work all the doors then follow procedure below :-
1).. Get Key
2).. Open key with big screwdriver
3).. Remove Battery
4).. Put battery in drawer and save for later use in your Sony headunit's remote control device !
NB your not really insured if you've still got an active key as your technically un-dermining the quality of the Cat 1 Alarm system and we all know what insurence companies do to people who flout their policy...no payout !
BE ALARMED.... BE VERY ALARMED !! (Bad Pun I know !)

I had a similar issue with my Euro import MY00 UK. I had a Cat 1 fitted and had two keys without any buttons which go on the keyring with the Cat 1 fobs. However, I also received the head only of a key with a button and a battery which unlocks at least the drivers door. However, it is useless as the Cat 1 alarm is still active. However the normal looking keys do still have a Subaru immobiliser in them.
