OK, not a whinge about the size of the thing this time - rather the daft open / lock buttons.
After a discussion with another owner who insisted that his didn't work, I finally figured it out at the weekend. It appears that they only work on the driver's door and don't trigger the central ! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/headshake.gif As a result of not understanding this, I left my car unlocked (apart from the driver's door) for a couple of hours at the weekend. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/reallymad.gif What's the point ? http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/dunno.gif Am I missing something ? http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/huh.gif |
R U sure it is working correctly because our STi key locks and unlocks the central locking. Maybe it's just another thing for the UK Car owners to complain about.
|
Lock/Unlock on the key is supposed to be disabled. Its due to the cat 1 alarm being fitted as an aftermarket item.
So my dealer told me anyway. Chip. |
I tried mine again, and it definitely doesn't work.

Just tried mine - key buttons do absolutely nothing. The supplying dealer told me they were disabled due to Sigma alarm/imobiliser fitted as standard.

Ours don't come with alarms fitted so that must be why ours work.
|
My dealer demonstrated its use when he was giving me the familiarisation tour of the car.
I've tried it and it does work - but only on the driver's door. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/scared.gif |
I don't understand y they just don't issue the JDM STi key instead, where there are no buttons on it.
|
The reason the buttons don't work ont UK STi 7 key is simple rocket science. They remove the battery .

I tried it tonight ... and again ... and again ... http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/eek3.gif ... you're right, it doesn't work - bugger ! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/madgo.gif Clearly; I am mad ! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/ogo.gif |
Or a numptie! ;)
I tried mine last night and it doesn't work either. Mark |
The key is disabled by removing the battery in order for the insurance companies to accept that the CAT 1 alarm is used, and not the normal subaru fitted piece of cr*p...If your key-fob doesn't work all the doors then follow procedure below :-
1).. Get Key 2).. Open key with big screwdriver 3).. Remove Battery 4).. Put battery in drawer and save for later use in your Sony headunit's remote control device ! NB your not really insured if you've still got an active key as your technically un-dermining the quality of the Cat 1 Alarm system and we all know what insurence companies do to people who flout their policy...no payout ! BE ALARMED.... BE VERY ALARMED !! (Bad Pun I know !) |
I had a similar issue with my Euro import MY00 UK. I had a Cat 1 fitted and had two keys without any buttons which go on the keyring with the Cat 1 fobs. However, I also received the head only of a key with a button and a battery which unlocks at least the drivers door. However, it is useless as the Cat 1 alarm is still active. However the normal looking keys do still have a Subaru immobiliser in them.
