Is the engine light on or does it flash when the car misfires ?

I wouldn't touch any unless it's running perfectly or priced as a project. A miss fire could be a 50 quid fix or a 5k nightmare.

Only if it's an undeclared swap, which would invalidate any insurance anyway. If it's declared, you'll be paying for a modified UK300 which will be as much, if not more, than an STi anyway I would have thought.

UK300 was a WRX derivative so not sure how it's ECU and mechanicals drive the ap STi AVCS unless the heads have been changed.........

I'd personally look at another car.

I recently brought a WRX to fix up and later found out it has an STi lump and ECU, i didn't pay very much for it so have put money into brakes/handling and a few other bits and pieces, so if it's top money then I'd say go for an STi through and through as with my car it was necessary to upgrade things to cope with the extra power the STi engine delivers, and the parts don't come cheap!!

No cheap insurance once you declare the mods, which you WERE going to do, of course?
