Default Well Spec'd Classic

What kind of money so I can budget would a well spec'd classic be? I am looking for something I can do some sprints and track work with. I would like something in good condition (no rust), forged engine (400bhp+), 6 speed box, preferrably cage with brake and suspension mods.

3 door type r would be ideal.

Anyone got similar spec to have feedback what they are like?

Thanks
Pete

£8'000-10'000 Bought

£15'000-£20'000 Built

Very difficult to find one to buy as they sell for waaaaaay more when stripped and sold for parts

Although you could probably build one for around £10'000 if you bought both a Type R and a version 7 or 8 STI. I'll problies get shot down here on my prices but...

Buy the Type R for around £4000, sell the gearbox (if DCCD) for £500, the engine for £800 and the brakes for £200... so thats cost you £2500

Buy the Version 8 STI for around £5000, break the car retaining the engine (good for 400+ ... just about) and also retaining the brakes and gearbox etc that you'll need for the Type R and sell the rest, maybes making £1000 back... so thats cost you around £4000

Then you're going to need a new turbo, exhaust, manifold, injectors, a few other bits and pieces including having a major service. Factoring labour costs, I reckon your extra £3500 should cover that.

To be fair Matty, I didnt say 2004... I said "version 7 or 8" and I also said "about £5000"

... and after checking it seems you can get a 70k 2002 STI for just over 4k

... ALSO, one version 8 STI for £5000 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3846700.htm

You said V8 which is a blob (not that it makes any difference).

The car in your link has done +100K, would you be happy pushing that engine and box at +400bhp in sprints etc...???

feedback wise, a classic with 400hp is awesome for sprints etc, my setup isnt quite to that spec yet but very close to 400hp with good spool is what i would be looking for ie not going too big with the turbo, i havent got a 6 speed and not sure i want one tbh ,probably go for a ppg or v5/6 box, see how long it last but my v3/4 box is holding up atm. ive got an ra btw. but the costs above seem about right.
