Evo mag and the BRZ

they seem to have given it the evo kiss of death, but there is the marginally cheaper gt 86,maybe evo are right, overpriced compared to other marques and a near miss on performance, but some reviews see it other ways, what do you believe, until you manage your own test drive?

Nothing wrong with it that another 100ft/lb of torque would'nt sort was the overall conclusion IMHO.
The only thing you have to bear in mind is the test car was auto, everthing else on the comparison was manual

You belive none of them and make up your own mind
Evo are just as guilty as other mags for biased rating/slating, as some of their journo hacks have their heads up their own ***** IMHO. They are paid to have an opinion be it right or wrong (or more favourable to any sponsors ). Thats not to say the review is totally wrong, but the opinions are probably as much down to the journalist's mood and personal tastes (and their clique) as much as the car itself.
So go and drive it. Nothing in text will translates to a good test drive.
Although I do suspect Subaru may have missed a trick or two with this car; They should have made it more different in performance to the Toyota one rather than picthing it at the same core market....as naturally people are going to buy the cheaper version. A H6 engine option would have been nice and would put it in 350Z territory.

I agree with you about the power Ali, the car sits in no mans land competing with nothing really.

agree with other posts, magazine journos have often got clouded judgements, due to multiple reasons ,some of which one can only speculate, glad to see on this forum it has not been completely written off!
Being a present owner of a 98 uk turbo, since 2002,and 3 years with a Dc5 teg,I held high hopes for this car ,as it has simillar attributes of lightness and handling against all out bhp.
sure alot of people see it this way too.
Happy test driving!

Yes very disappointing report by EVO mag
Yet every other report in it says it's a fantastic car
Lots of info on this forum mostly Americans so expect lots of American moans ,groans and humour but they love the car

Have to admit the automatic gearbox in that vid does sound horribily slushy for a six speed unit.
The noise of it hesitating and slurring between gears kind of reminded me of the old Rover 216GSi 4 speed auto runabout (Honda engine/gearbox) I had for three months (couldn't stand it, so I sold it). Not the firm-yet-pliant shifts you get from a BMW ZF-6HP six speed auto (although they are usually bolted to six cylinder engines).

The Evo video of them driving the car back to the UK is the first video I have seen of an automatic, every other video review seems to be of manual cars.
Weird that Evo of all mags would get an auto boxed car.
No the sort of car which is going to sell many autos in The UK.
