Default should i go back to 'newage'

as you may know i sold my bug a year ago and got myself a classic v2 sti ra which i love but ive always liked the blob sti and im pondering over the idea of getting one. so should i go for it or stick to my RA.. funds are low at the min so finding a blob sti for little money would be hard but i may need to scratch an itch..

what you all think??

Going from a little STI RA you will want a decent spec blob to put a smile on your face.
Its a completely different car and in my opinion with anything less than 350bhp is utterly boring to drive. I sold a 05 JDM STI last year with nice suspension mods and 340bhp, i found it very un-involving to drive and even with the twin scroll it felt underpowered.
If your gonna make the jump then save up a few more pennies and buy a nicely modified blob STI because from getting out of a lightweight weapon of an RA a big blob will feel like a ferry.
But i know what you mean about an itch, some times they have just gotta be scratched, even if you know you wont like it.

Couldn't have put it better

Sold my 04 JDM 360bhp for exactly the same reason and bought a Type R, now running 330.

But there again, I did go and buy a new age too - a bug STi wagon I couldn't resist

Ye, I remeber the tin feeling clearly. The newage is more planted + all the luxuries, such as 6 speed, Brembo's etc

my last newage was a 500+ bhp jdm bug really good sorted car, sold that a few years ago, now have a v5 type r sti been built to around 550 + of each, with hawkeye 6 speed, ap front brakes , and lots more, ive not driven a classic ever with this power, so should be fun, to say the least
total track car stripped out roll cage ect.

If it's your only car then I would say newage. If it's a second/weekend toy then classic.

Agree 100%. There's no getting away from it, the newage is the nicer place to be. No way would I want to drive a noisy old classic day in day out.
Sunday afternoon blast in the sun, well that's a different story....

Classic for fun and weekends
New age for refinement and every day use

Best to have both

Keep the classic mate I don't regret for one second selling my well spec'd newage stifor the P1 even if I am now about 80-90bhp down! The grin factor I get from driving car makes up for it plus it's a lighter car and with a few mods and remap should make the classic a better weapon than a lardy newage

thanks for the input, im really torn between the blob and my RA.. it will be my only car so it would be used every day for work and such. i must admit when i got the ra there was and still is a smile on my face when i drive it which sort of faded away when i had my bugeye. having said that the bug was only the WRX so im guessing the STi blob would be way different.

Having had classics (one of which was an RA) and now newage I'd say the classic will definitely be the more 'enjoyable' on a short blast. Factor in motorway jaunts, family trips and shopping then the the newage is in my opinion the better option. The other thing to bear in mind is classics whilst cheaper to run will now be getting long in the tooth. Therefore reliability may be an issue as an every day car.
Do you know what?! I'm rambling, **** it get the classic and be done with. If you go for the Blob you'll always be thinking about the classic, we all agree the classic is more fun!

450ish isn't too bad
But yes you need a lot more power to get the same sort of thrill the classic gives at more modest levels.

I used to agree with the classic over the newage for speed and driver thrills, but these days now i'm back in a newage, i think it's so much more stable that they are actually quicker in a lot of situations, you really need to concentrate when pushing on in a classic, especially my type r, but when you apply that same level of focus to the newage, they really do make a very very quick car, not sure if it's because mine is a wagon, and rummer has it they handle better, but with only the ppp i find it quite an interesting drive, may be the AP 4 pots add to that because the breaking is far superior to the standard 4 pots on the type r.

I'm sure it's a debate that has very long legs and will run and run, depends how you like your thrills, as far as i'm concerned they both have a place and are both great drivers cars, one thing for sure is that you won't know until you try.

Had a 450bhp RA and then got a 450bhp Newage.... Prefer the Newage myself and tracked both, only time I miss the RA is on the strip

The Newage is over 500bhp caged, stripped and is only used for track and trips to the Ring now tho

Quick Reply: should i go back to 'newage'
