Was talking to the 'source' earlier. He said the rumour (from the rally world, he is an insider himself), was that Subaru are making a return with a 1.6T engined AWD.
I hope so , as said its not WRC without subaru its a shame they pulled out , also its impossible to get anything subaru related because they are not running
I thought current WRC rules restricted the engine format to be inline? Which was one of the reasons Subaru pulled out? No place for a boxer? I might be wrong though ?

No, no issues with the engine being a flat 4, they decided to go none turbo 2ltr so alot of the big teams dropped out, then they decided to go 1.6ltr turbocharged, most of the big players didn't have a 1.6ltr turbo engine, so no doubt it's been in development for the last couple of years.
Should see the 1.6 turbo unit in mainstream subaru's in the future
Will most likely be the BRZ backed by Cosworth. Can see prodrive in the loop anymore however there might be a small possibility due to the **** up this season by prodrive for the mini.
I'd say it would be going to a company who has a history in rallying and can provide all the backup needed, and tbh, cosworth cannot really do that, plus having seen how well the cosworth subaru sold (or didnt), it would be ahame to rule either out, but Prodrive have much more experience here over cosworth in this field (remember the WRC cosworths were run by ford and not cosworth).
The arrangement nearly fell apart but after a few meetings they got the mini wrc team back on the go again, I'd imagine they'd be using someone else who has a reputation in motorsport. Cosworth perhaps ?

Cosworth are basically an engineering firm, they have very little experience in running a wrc team and dont have the facilities, id take a tour of Prodrive to see what goes on, you may be shocked at what they have there
I know about the Aston martin Racing side of things, But wouldn't it be a touch awkward running two rally teams from two different manufacturers from the same building ? Conflict of interest with both manufacturers or am I just being cynical.
I was under the impression the group N program was all coming from STi instead ?? hence selling off the group N parts not long ago.
don't get me wrong I'd be all for Prodrive running SWRC Again as they do a cracking job
