Default albins,ppg or quaife?in a classic.

as titled,

going to have to upgrade the gearbox before i can really put any power through the car safely.

car is a classic shape impreza with a target of 450-500bhp.and to be used as a fast road car and occasional track use.

quaife

ppg currently has no items in their subaru section

i am thinking about the quaife dogbox but not sure if the noise will do my head in once the novelty wares of as i love the sound.and also how it would feel in normal driving conditions?

i dont want to go 6 speed as i feel it will involve changing gear too much for my liking.

what do u guys reckon? and experience of any of the gearboxes is welcome.

I'm in a similar position and looking for a 5 speed gearkit for my rally car, one thing I will say is don't go for a dog box for road use. My old rally car had a Modena dog box and it was fantastic being used flat out in anger but awful in normal driving conditions.

We are running PPG@490bhp in the new age wagon and we are love it,just don't go with Exedy Twin Plate if you are intending using car daily

Apex Performance is PPG dealer

Hi there we are running Straight cut 1-4,really depends for what you are intending use,if its for daily driving, whine sound of PPG will be maybe annoying for you(but we are love the noise of PPG)...

I would recommend try before buy PPG,some people hate it and some people love it.

i am thinking straight cut for the strength aspect of it? looking at the pics of the gearkits, there is alot more meat on the straight cuts,i know they are more expensive but not by that much more, figure if youre gonna spend that much on a helical you may as well wait a bit longer and spend the extra ££s.plus i do love the sound of the whine from the gearbox

testing one with a straight cut would be ideal but i imagine very unlikely that thats gonna happen lol

Hi there

Sometimes you need just wait and you will find good deal on used PPG...
New cost little bit too much.

We're never tried helical gearset, only we are tried this one and is great, not the best in traffic, but on drag strip or track working amazing

We are sometimes at Santa Pod and where you can try...
