Default is there a wrx, sti spec model?

As above
I have a 1996 jdm impreza on the log book It's a gl but it has a vf34 turbo some other sti parts.
And on the speedo above the miles its got sti badge
The guy I bought it off says it is a wrx with an sti spec.
I have a 295bhp print out from when it was standard
It has the ej20k engine code

It's as fast as my 310bhp bug eye untill the condrod went through the block and cought on fire at very high speeds

No such thing as a WRX with STI spec. It's either a WRX or an STI. And by the sound of it it's an STI with a few mods, unless ofcourse someone has tried to make a WRX look like an STI.
Wouldn't of been 295bhp standard either chap.

It should have a red inlet manifold, carbon fibre front strut brace, nardi steering wheel, STI badges in the engine bay and bottom of front wings, mid level rear spoiler, STI seats etc etc.

Stick a few pics up or better still stick up the 7 digit applied model code found on the vin plate.

Use this site to help you identify models in the future chap...

Look on the 'VIN' plate - whats the applied model number? If it ends 48D its a WRX. If it ends 4ED is a WRX STI and if it ends 4DD its a WRX STI Type-RA.

What caused the fire? Engine giving way, was that due to mods without the correct map?

If its a GL on the logbook (like many grey imports were - ask GC8), what have you insured it as?

I think the cause was as the rod came through the block oil came out and hit the glowing turbo.
It had only 76k on the clock fsh
Sti pink Injectors
Vf35 turbo
Ninja exhaust
A 3inch down pipe
Mapped by enginetunner Plymouth
I was running so sweet no nocks bangs or anything.
I managed to save the car just a thew pipes wires and under tray burnt.
Car was running 309bhp/295 I was on my 3rd gear box It's only UK one

Previous owner(s) maybe had a little fettle. Not uncommon to put STi bits onto a Wrx to be honest.

Totally depends on the model year. Ranged between 220-300 for Wrx, STi, saloon or wagon models, manual or auto etc. many differentials.

Yea would of been around 280PS (276bhp) when it rolled out of the factory all those years ago.
Very hard to say what power it's making now without knowing the complete spec and even then it's impossible to give you an accurate figure. Best bet is to get it booked in for a dyno session, this will not only give you a power figure but will also check how things are setup.

Regarding the STI bits, as above its not uncommon for people to add bits and bobs to a WRX to make it look like an STI. The usual things like strut brace, badges, spoiler and wheel are norm. Things like speedo and seats usually get left but yours has obviously had the speedo fitted.
Don't worry that it's not an STI, it's still a very capable car if setup right.
Wouldn't advise pushing the power up though, engines and boxes are pretty much at their limit at circa 330 and remember, it's an old car.

Bearing in mind that the VF34 first appeared on the JDM Sti bugeye impreza (Year 2000), You can safely say it has been added at a later date if you have it fitted to a JDM My96 car

The previous owner had a WRX then added some STI parts to it and now its a WRX with an Sti spec(to some degree)
