Timing Belt question

Scooby Regular
I reckon its time for my timing belt to be changed, however as my car is now out of warranty I don't fancy paying £400 to some dealer.....
Does anyone in the West yorkshire area have any good pointers to reputable mechanics or garages / workshops who would change the belt for me, obviously at a cheaper cost than the dealers? Also I can talk pound notes if that's the language they want to use
btw - I'm based in Wakefield, near Leeds, but if you've read my status, you'd probably already know that
Thanks for listening.

Hi Burr, i don't know if this will help, but there is a small ad usually in Auto trader full service including all filters, plugs belts and labour, £250. All turbo models, {i think} i havn't used them myself, so i can't recommend them. I don't have a trader to hand otherwise i would give you the number. Has any other scooby owners used them?. I think they are fairly local, Rotherham/ Sheffield area i think, hope this helps. Ady.

Safe Engines?? I am sure this has been done before - but are they really safe??
I think the engineering term is, Clearance Engine.
Way back in the 70's my Ford 2.0litre Pinto engines were clearance engines - indeed 2 cambelts snapped and no damage done!
Anyone want to put all our minds at rest??
Pete

Well, I've just been quoted £60 plus the price of the belt. (How much is the belt????)
The guy who's gonna do it is a current Subaru dealer head-mechanic, so I think it should be ok
