Default Engine guidance please

I have had an engine failure so am on the hunt for a replacement.
My question is, which engines would be a straight forward drop in apart from the v3 sti that came out?
Reason Im asking is I have found a few diffrent versions, eg 5-6 but Im not sure if it will drop straight in?

Thanks

The only TRUE straight drop in will be the variant that came out.

Have you looked at a rebuild? New bottom end?

Yeah, but as this was a result of a rebuild, I need it to be quick and easy ;-(

Get a newage sti 2ltr short block and bolt your heads to it. I'm sure you could get a good short block for £700 and its capable of 400bhp easy if you decide to follow that route.
