Default Is This Worth A Look This Morning??

hey guys,

went to look at this yesterday

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...s/20?logcode=p

doesnt look as nice as in the photos by far,the front bumper had all cracked paintwork and the bonnet wasnt level, lower on one side thasn the other, and didnt feel near the 260bhp let alone 280bhp.

my mate now wants to go and look at this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-SUBAR...item4ab4247a19

its 5 mins away from us, to me it looks more ropey than the one we went to see yesterday but hes up for it,cash burning in his pocket lol, could be worth it if it does have a forged engine, tried to call him/her no answer yet.

Those rear arches are bad and will require a lot of work to put right, they rust from the inside and will be significantly worse than it looks from the outside, as in halfway up the rear quarter and will cost at least 1k just for the rear arches.

Engine spec is good but i'd walk away because of the rust.

To be fair if it genuinely has receipts for the API forged rebuild plus the simtek from engine tuner its got to be worth £3k in bits (if that way inclined)

right then lads.

went to see it and my mate bought it,looks better than in the pics to be honest,my mate didnt mind the rust to much,he reckons it wasnt too bad on the inside of the arch, although the guy said hes had a quote of 700 to sort both sides out and blow em over.

on the plus side has receipts for new shocks and apex springs a year ago, various other bits and bobs, and a bill of 1900 for the simtek and 2 maps installed with 3 bar map sensor and lambda in september 2011.

he has a dyno printout of when he got it in 06 with 235 bhp and two from september 2011 apparently the stage 1 is 273bhp/245 ib/ft and stage 2 is 315 bhp/289 ib/ft.

it feels nice and tight,no knocks, bangs or smoke, apart from the arches the blokes clearly looked after it,and it pulls like a train.the brakes are ****e,so need upgrading very soon. hes happy with it which i spose all that matters, although no bills from api for a rebuild,he says he "lost them moving" and the rebuild was 20 quid short of 3k.

Good for your mate, he will have a shock on the arches, will take a little more than a blow over on those you will be looking to replace metal by the looks, and what you dont see is what is under the bumper (or use to be )
As paulo said, check with David at API, if the car has been there then he will have details of it, sounds dodgy though, he keeps all the other receipts but loses the one for the most work.... ok.....
Now he has to take it to a speciallist and see what really needs sorting

Car sounds ok but the arch issues will be far bigger than he may realise - resulting in him having to either spends a couple of grand or re-shell the car at some point. I would have walked away - there are wo many better cars for that price.

I hope I am wrong.

hhhhmm thought we were supposed to be a "friendly" forum on here,no need to be sarcastic lads,
yes the car has rust on the rear arches, mainly on one side but my mate is prepared for it,and is gonna have it sorted, cut out,new metal put in and sprayed,so whats the problem..
he was happy to buy it as the engine seems to be real strong and if it has been forged then hes onto a winner.
its had loads of money chucked at itthe guy was a mature owner, its just needs the bodywork sorting and itl be a tidy impreza.
we spent hours lookin online and tbh at this moment, there arent many decent imprezas about, that local to us and not alot of anything good really

well said , as long as hes happy!! sort arches and hes got a nice looking car to me lets face it , it wont cost a mint to repair them anyway!! if it has had the rebuild even better!
good luck to him

Thats a funny statement, to get them fixed 100% wont just be a couple of hundred quid, the guy asked for advice, the main bain of the classic apart from its engine is the arches and they are shot yet the guy still buys it and it doesnt have the API receipts LOL

dont ask for advide then ignore it is my answer, nobody has been sarcastic either

No receipt = no rebuild, you dont lose something like that tbh, you would need to speak with API, it was only the other week someone off here pointed me to a car, it had work done by Zen, remapped, rebuilt etc, shame Paul knew nothing about it so someone purchased a lemon there (if it sold).
If it has nothing to back it up, you take it as not done.

having just bought a classic Scoob myself I would advise one thing first GET IT CHECKED BY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THEIR STUFF.

I did, ok it's cost me some money, but with these cars better safe than sorry. Overall my car had a clean bill of health and I now know all about it thanks to the garage I took it to.

I cannot identify cars by any other means than the owners name at the time the build was done. We don't use Reg numbers as an ID. So unless the original customer is known I cannot help much.
