Default Is this boxer engine layout a slight engineering addiction / affliction ! ?

Just curious to know if people came to subaru owning/tuning,via other similar vehicle setups. That is,the likes of VW aircooled, flat fours, even liking or owning BMW horizontally opposed twin cyl, bikes, or any others that spring to mind.
Are we seeing subaru boxers as ,dare I say, the poor mans Porsche! ?
I am sure some on here own and drive some of the vehicle types, as mentioned.
sorry if it seems slightly unimportant, cant help wondering.....

I'm probably in the minority here.
I never had any interest in V-dubs or flat four engines in general, not even any interest in Subarus.
Until I drove one in 2007, a 2002 WRX.
And bought it.

Poor mans porsche my ****, they were a bona fide engine strapped to a great looking car and hurtled through forests and roads with fantastic rumbling noises. Id dare say Subarus are better suited to rallying than any porsche ever made.

They did have a go I agree, but prohibitive cost and results just were not there to justify it.
As a road car/GT car, Porsche are fantastic, for out and out racing pedigree, Subaru would edge it (in my opinion) as they would have been unknown but for the Impreza Turbo which to me speaks volumes about its desirability and following.

In my case I couldn't afford a f'off V8 with the associated grumble, so "settled" for the flat-four burble of a Scoob and not looked back since. When I say settled, the sound initially hooked me in, but then I drove one.......

My dad imported a few cars when I was a kid. Impreza's, Evo's, Pulsars and legacy.
I've been in love with Jap performance stuff ever since.
Had a Pulsar, 2 Evo's, 4 Imprezas and a B4 briefly.

I think there the best all round car money can buy. Impreza's and dare I say the evo have supercar performance, 4 doors and a big boot. Then there's the noise. You can tell an impreza from any other car. How many times do you hear a loud exhaust and it could be a Chav in a corsa or an evo.

I went to an importers to buy a twin turbo Supra - hated it as it was auto and didn't like the wrap around dashboard. Test drove an Evo, Skyline GTS and a Scooby while I was there. Liked the Scooby so looked on their books, saw one I liked in Japan so they bid on it in the auction for me and imported it. MY95 WRX in silver, owned it for 6 1/2 years - then bought a MY99 V5 STI RA Ltd with a 2.1 stroker engine which I have owned for 18 month now

Yep hooked here too. Went away after my classic a few year ago then came back last year to my newage. Spent 400 last year on new headunit and speakers, complete and utter waste of money, its never on. happy listening to Subaru sound track instead. Takes my mind off the fecking fuel gauge..

dont get me wrong, agree with al previous posts, i am still hooked on owning my 1st impreza, have just sold the integra, which is great, quite a different driving experience.
vfm the uk turbo wagon owes be nothing after 9years of faultless motoring, the 2003 dc5 was a £ 10 k luxury.i would never get into porsche ownership, rather buy from a list of,spec c,type 25, .... the usual suspects!
