Are all the CDB Litchfield blocks cryo treated?

I dont think any of them are. But i've looked into that and theres a company named frozen solid that can do your block, crank, pistons, rods and bearings for around £600. Im looking at doing a step by step build so just looking at getting my current block converted

I mentioned it because in Bob Rawle's project thread he has lots of pics and info on this Litchfield CDB which he has used in his car. His has been cryo treated so i was wondering if they all were.

yeah i read that to. the way i understand it is he had a converted block from litchfield sent away for treatment and then onto finch motorsport for machining

im guessing they'll use liquid nitrogen, but still quite impressive getting down to 77°k. wonder if they do it in stages or if they just blast it straight down to temp, also wonder how long its held at said temp for

I'm wondering if this tempering will affect durability. I believe it hardens so stops flexing in the crank cases so will they start to stress fracture? I guess only time will tell.

becoming brittle would be an issue i reckon if they just blasted it straight down, gotta let the molecules get used to it slowly??

If you read Bob's project thread again, you will find that the blocks were machined for the insert & fitted, all machining was carried out prior to cryo treatment, they then were line honed, & final piston honing carried out, the cryo treatment can cause distortion to machined tolerences, out of a batch of 3, 2 did have rear main out of tolerence issues.
