Gearbox failure
Hi
I sent my car in after my whining gearbox. I sent it in for a gearbox and diff oil change. Had a phone call from the garage saying that they have dropped the oil from the gearbox and it has alot of swarf in it
They removed a case panel from the gearbox and there are large pieces of metal
Does it need a new box?? Who's the best for recon boxes and prices?? My cars a 2005 wrx Sti type uk with dccd
Thanks please help

Yeh I'm going to. It had a new clutch a while back not sure if it's off that. The thing is the cars only had 1 owner from new with a full Subaru history. I might just get it flushed through then replace the oil and try it again. If it still the same then I guess it needs stripping and rebuilding

It's got 50000 miles. Mature owner. Changes gear great. Cars completely standard
Do you think it just needs flushing out? Would of Subaru changed the oil between new and now???

How many miles has your car done and what sort of person owned it before? I read these boxes are good for 500-600bhp so a failure like that would take some serious abuse I would of thought. I personally haven't seen anyone on here with this problem before on a 6speed dccd box I may be wrong and missed old threads but I certainly dont think its common.
This.
If you were talking about a classic 'box then it happens, but a Newage STi DCCD 6-speeder? Something's not right.
Has it been abused? Modified previousy? Run on low/incorrect oil/too long between oil changes? Just a one-off dodgy box from new?
You could flush it and try again but obviously make sure you have AWD breakdown cover incase you're miles from home.

Not common for the 6spd to fail to be honest. the early bugeye sti's were prone to syncro failure but non of them shreaded any gears as they are a very hard gearbox to break. The later versions like your own not very common for there to be any issues, not unless the bearings on the center diff & extension piece have broken the harden coating off the ***** in the bearings.
also Based in cumbria here. if you need any advice as per your previous thread

regardless of a "full" history there can be a massive variation in the actual servicing regime carried out, at a guess your problem is most likely the worng oil and far too long service interval on the gear oils...........
