Default Ecutek licence

I was just wondering if you get an ecutek remap with a licence do you have to keep going back to the same mapper for tweeks? Or can other mappers work on it?

Cheers

See Rob Days thread, i've explained it on there but in summary, you have to go back to the same place, another mapper will have to start from scratch.

This is not true, another mapper will have to write a map from scratch however the customer will not have to pay the license fee again. Typically a mapper may charge for example £300ish for a Ecutek remap on a car they have never mapped before and £150-200 for a tweak or map update as their is less work involved as they will have the rom file for your car. Take these actual figures with a pinch of salt but you get the idea.

It just seems that money you pay for a licence is a waste or am I missing the point ?

Its not a waste as it allows you to be remapped using the EcuTek software. To be honest any mapper, mapping any management system will always charge less for a "tweak" to one of their own maps than having to write a map from scratch. No mapper would use another mappers map anyway even if they could as its not their own work.

Ahh I see i guess that makes sense then. I guess you have to make sure you find a good mapper in the first place and stick with them to save the pennies in the long run ?
