Unhappy

lo every body

just a quick question.

boost pressure is only 0.5 bar will not go above this, checked all jubilee clips+ tightend where necessary.took for a blast still the same.
bypassed the solinoide and took a direct pressure reading from the waste gate and guess what pressure is only 0.2.
i thought that the fail safe pressure for the waste gate is 0.5 (7psi).
could any one help out on this subject as it would be greatly aprecciated.
or is there something diffrent that i should be looking for.???????????

cheers dougie + diana

Dougie,
my93 wrx had same problem. sorted it by doing a ecu reset and by changing to super unleaded.
Worth a try.

hi dougie

the only two cars i have seen running around this amount of boost had their air flow meter buggered so have you had your checked ?

the other thing is have you checked your solenoid ? have you got a two port or a three port ? if you have a 2 port i have got a spare two port in the garage so you can borrow it, just to eliminate this as cause.

what is the last thing you did to the car ? last upgrade, filter etc ?

i hope this helps

Hi, to check the default actuator controler pressure you must directly connect the port that feeds the boost solenoid from the turbo to the port on the actuator, If all is well then this will be 0.5 bar, if it is not then either your turbo is unwell ( usually noises go with this scenario) or you have a leak in a pipe somewhere.

You don't say what MY of car you have ?

Dougie..

When you say you took a pressure reading from the wastegate..are you talking about the wastegate actuator? If so then I don't know why you would want to do this since there isn't any pressure there.

0.5bar is around what you would expect if there was no boost solenoid, if you join the actuator directly to the hose that comes off the turbo body this is around what you should get.

I'm not sure what model year you have, but there should be a vacuum hose from the manifold going to the solenoid and a vacuum hose with a T -piece splitting to the actuator and the other end to the turbo body.

Either the boost solenoid isn't correctly plumbed in (wrong hoses connected up, split hoses), it's up the swanny, or is it possible the car could be in limp home mode which would knock your boost down to this but I would imagine the check engine light should come on!

hope this is of help,
Nito

The actuator controller on Dougies car ( a MY97 ) was connected directly to the turbo outlet and a pressure of 0.2 bar was achieved.
Since the solenoid pulses open and shut "x" number of times a second by the ECU to achieve boost targets, is it not fair to say that the solenoid cannot respond sufficiently to achieve the desired pressure due to the low initial pressure? All pipework was cleaned and checked for security, including positive pressure side, also no untoward noises or smoke etc were observed from the turbo.

Alan

scooby nutter we have changed to sul and no change in power, might still try the reset of the ecu though, cheers any way m8

sam lo m8 :d we havent done any mods to the car yet,was at alan and the omly thing we dident try was the solinoid, thought it was the waste gate,we will try this though cheers m8 se ya soon. hows the car m8.

hi bob we did try that 1 out so it but was only 0.2 bar though, might be a leak then cheers m8.

hi nitro sorry for the lack of info there not been in till now either,as alan said we have tryed the right acuator. so it looks like its a similar story from diffrent sources then, split or leaky pipes or the solinoid.cheers any way nitro.

alan cheers for helping me out of a sticky situation there m8,wouldnt now what to have ritten m8

a big thanks to all the people that helped out with diffrent ideas, will let u all now what the final problem was.

lo all

u might have guessed it buy now that the car is fully fixed and it wasnt done by (S+S services at ayr) it was done by my very goooood friend ALAN G

the best of it was that we checked every thing on the car that we could, then we decided to change the 2 port solinoid for a 3 port solinoid (with a small change to the wiring to allow it to work) took for a drive no diffrence then on checking it at the garage ALAN G noticed that the large cable tie that holds the small black tubes together(the 1s from the waste-gate,actuator,and solinoid)had been pulled shut,so tight that when released the indentation that was left on the pipes was unbelievable.

the cable tie should have had enough room as to get another pipe down if necessary.

ALAN G had noticed that there was a blockage in the pipes so he sprayed brake cleaner down them and got some oil out of the pipes.

still cant believe that we have been driving around for 7 months with lo boost and all the time it was a stupid cable tie.

as i said earlier a very big thank u to ALAN G cheers mate could not have done it with out u

ps alan the brakes are still smoking m8 u crazy ba!!ard

Alan,

Im still having bloody nightmares from your driving yesterday. Hows clare she was like one of those toys you stick to the window

Thats the last time you get to drive our car bloody thing didnt know what hit it.

Need new brakes now - wonder why.

Always wondered who would be worse on the track between you and sam but at a guess, (having not been in a car with sam) you are the bloody nutter.

Sam - if i knew he was that bad he wouldnt have got to drive the car

Diana.
