heh i missed the post before it got edited, but i know your pain

worse, was a while back now, when i was running an engine in and took a small country road rather than the A road
anyhow they had re tarmaced the road, but where they chuck some tar down and then aload of loose gravel and let the cars bed it in nicely....

had to go down the same road for a few weeks with stones pinging off my car, most from people driving past the other way, was not amused and wrote a letter to the council..... didnt get anywhere mind ~:/

It was going the other way, didn't even see it as it came around a bend! Surely they have a set speed as well to ensure a good distribution but this numpty was flying!

The side of my car got absolutely battered on Saturday by a gritter! I was sat in traffic and stationary and it was coming the other way and completely pebble dashed the whole length of mine and everyone elses cars at point blank range!

and we are suppose to be eternally grateful to the council? Why can't the grit be deposited beneath the truck rather than sprayed and flicked around from the back? Am I right they still have to drive over both lanes to cover, they aren't flicking it to cover both lanes are they? If you are behind then you have your own fate, pull up, slow down even take a different route but driving by just seems unfair! I know it's for our own safety but I'd rather not have to respray my car every time! Second rant over - I haven't even checked my car yet but can imagine the transparent, water based paint now used by Subaru on the latest models.

Its bad wqhen that happens. On the motorway is the worse. They drive at about 50-60 mph throwing grit. Dont you just hate this time of year.

Had this in the NSX on the motorway @ 55 mph. Even holding back didn't help as other cars were flying it up all over the place.

Ended up overtaking it instead as the sound of the front of the car being sandblasted was just too much to take. Funny though its the only time I've ever driven it in sub zero temperatures where the tyres actually gripped ok on the ice/cold, usually they were lethal. But then 3 hours at 70mph probably got enough heat into them to keep them pliable.

Anyhoo what is it with the gritters at the moment? They seem intent of dumping a years worth of grit on the roads in the space of a few days Methinks they want to spend all of their budget so they get the same amount of funding next year

It one of thoses things the grit is not as hard as stones as it breaks up as cars drive over it, so i dont think it would chip the paint. I always think if there was no grit and how your paintwork would look if you hit black ice, then a tree.

front end of mines looks like it has been attacked with a machine gun. Weather has been really mild this winter but they still insist on chucking the grit down.

I can honestly say that I`ve never experienced chipped paintwork from grit. Stones...yes, but not grit. I`m sure it`s too soft to chip paintwork
