Anybody know where i can source one of these for a 2005 sti?

ECUTEK is a software company that provides mappers with a re-programming of the original ECU. You contact a dealer local to you and find out the cost of the Licence (paid to allow access, but it's a one off charge so any remaps after the first are cheaper) and then you decide on a mapper, drive in and they plug in a laptop, and reprogramme your ECU.

I have RACEROM on mine, the ECUTEK dual map programme. Mine's a 2006STi with fly-by-wire so the throttle is run from the ECU. You get full throttle shifting, launch control and downshift blipping (I disabled that function on mine).

No sure who is about up your way but I had mine done at Alan Jeffery's in Plympton. And no, he's not that Grumpy usually...His son Martyn is a legend at mapping.

If you are going back to standard then you need a standard ECU for the MY year / model? or am I missing something ............

ecutek ecu wouldve been moded for whatever the car had on at the time, it would be unsuitable for your standard car unless you had the map altered, again by a ecutek tuner, such as bob rawle or jollygreen
