Default Help on 4 poster ramp or similar

Guys
Im hoping someone on here can help sort me out please.
I only have a normal garage about 16 ft long 8 feet wide by around 7 ft high.
Im after a samll 4 poster ramp or something similar that i can lift the car to work on more comfortably. I would only be able to lift the car about 2 - 3 ft off the floor at the moment but in the summer i will be lifting the garage roof higher. Ebay has plent of lifts but i need one no ,ore than 8ft across.
Do you guys on here use anything like what i want or do you know where i could find something.
It may not sound much to lift it 3 feet but it will help with general repairs.
hope you can help.
cheers

you would be struggling with a 4 post ramp as most are atleast 9 feet wide only other option would be a 2 poster with 4 arms may be a better soloution!

Thanks for the reply, just had a look at the one in the link, looks ok i just wonder if it needs to be fully extended to work or if it can be used at any height?
Wish i had built the garage different but its too late now.
Have you used one of these ramps before?

If you could manage with a 2' lift for now, how about a high lift trolley jack and four large axle stands:

http://www.cromwell.co.uk/KEN5036920K (ignore the photo - it's not of the jack the details refer to)

and four of these:

http://www.cromwell.co.uk/KEN5035560K

Other places sell the same stuff, I just had the details of Cromwell's to hand.

As has been said already, if you're going for a two post lift, you will certainly need more than 8' width as the cars are the best part of 6' wide and the arms won't fit underneath. Whatever you go for, your floor will need to have at least 6" thick concrete to support it.

And whatever you go for, make sure it's CE approved. There's some quite dodgy looking Chinese stuff out there. I've found this firm helpful in the past. Their stuff is mainly Chinese, but properly re-worked to bring it in line with EU safety standards:

if your struggling for space, why not just dig yourself a pit.that way you take up no space at all in your garage and you can board it over so that you can still walk around in the garage when the car is not in.i have managed to do everyjob needed with a pit.

If you have the room why not put it outside. I know a guy who had one outside for years. Just give it a good coat of hammerite and get a decent cover to cover the motor. Remember you'll be limited by the power supply,so you'll be looking for a single phase one unless you have 3 phase.

cheers for the info guys, theres some good ideas to look over.
I dismantled and moved my original garage forward by 16ft and then built a 20ft workshop on the back about 15years ago which believe it or not had a pit already but i filled it in ( what a wally) . Its always a case of if i knew then what i knew now it would all have been designed different. While looking at some of your ideas i have thought about lifting my garage roof to give me more height, im stuck at the width the wife wont let me have any more garden !!!.
I liked the two poster system as it would have done for my bike as well but the width is too much . I will carry on looking at the links you sent and see if i can sort something out.
Anyway thanks for your help and hope you all have a fab new year.

Surely for personal use markings will matter not?

Some details of CE marking are here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CE_mark

I don't think the product would be illegal without them, merely it shows that it conforms to whichever CE standard is applicable to it, which must give some reassurance that the manufacturer is a responsible one. There are some very lax engineering and health and safety standards in parts of the Far East.
