i bought MY03STI to be just that, a family car. I to have a little girl due on 20th April and think my scooby will be great. got 3 seat belts in the back, all 3 point, plenty of roon for the baby seat, even behind me i think and i am 5' 10". The boot is plenty big enough for the pram and all the stuff we need. I think the only thing i will beon the look out for is a bung for the exhaust. I was thinking of starting a thread on here about how much difference this would make to the noise.
So I say keep it mate.

I used to take my daughter out in mine to go to sleep when she was really young. Beats pushing a pram around the block! Keep it!

depends if you can afford to run it after the baby is born?

If things are going to be tight, move to a smallish diesel 4-door hatch for a while, then come back.

I was in the same boat about 2 years ago and was hunting for a more 'practical' car. But when you look at the options, par the financial aspect, the Subaru is a good all round contender. Keeps you happy, will accomodate as much as most other 4 door saloons and you haven't got the hassle of finding a seller for yours and buying a car that could be more grief than it's worth.

You know what they say, if ain't broke....

You'll be amazed how well the exhaust note aids in dropping them off to sleep

I too was on the hunt for a quieter exhaust or a bung after deciding to keep it but never managed to obtain one before the arrival. Whenever the little one was put in the car, even when he was screaming, as soon as that key was turned, he relaxed and fell straight to sleep

First of all congrats to you and your mrs .A car that averages 20 -25 mpg and can top 140 mph,and a minimum of a group 17 insurance is not my idea of a family car personally . We all buy our scoobs for different reasons, but mine was to drive it. I have a honda civic as my family car and £50 will fill the tank and see 400 miles .£50 in my subaru does not last me 5 days, but what the heck,no point in owning a performance car then worrying about fuel prices imho.
Best thing is to see how you get on when the baby is born,as you can never account for everything that it cost to bring up a child. If needs must then you may have to sell and get a more practical, economical car, then get a scoob at a later date when your child starts to get older.

This whole buy a diesel thing is a crazy. unless you do a lot of mileage its no cheaper when you do the maths, plus when it goes wrong parts tend to cost a fortune.
Better of with a smaller engined petrol if you have to downgrade.

I would say keep it and see how it goes.

I have a V5 STI RA Ltd and my Mrs has a classic Sport.

If the pram fits in the boot then you are ok. We didn't think about it at the time but luckily ours did. It would only fit folded down with the wheels upwards but it then went easily in and out after a few practices even the Mrs got it down to a fine art!

Yes.

I have a MY99 UK wagon and it is perfect as a family car. Plenty of seats fit even with an ISOfix point and boost for when kiddly isn;t in the car.

Imagine driving a Mondeo or Astra every day FFS

To add, I bought the Scoob whe Isaac was 6 months old - had a 20 year old Merc when he was born, could play tennis in the back is was so friggin' huoooj! Wearing a classy smoking jacket, naturally

if you can afford the cost keep it i had just bought my first one a few months ago i have 3 small kids and they fit in the back tight but they fit.

As with the exhaust if your wife was in the car regularly when pregnant then the child will be fin with the noise as it will have been use to it when inside mum.

Keep it you will regret it unless it's to save money then thats your call.
