I'd guess somewhere in between the 260-270 region, provided it hasn't been remapped since PPP. Getting a remap would be the safest way to get more power but to get the most out of it, you're better off fitting a few bits first.

From reading on this site I've seen that the PPP stated figures are always well above the actual power.
Do a search chap but pretty sure your car won't be making 270bhp.

And I would suggest having the car mapped by a decent mapper. You'll see much better results over the PPP map.

Indeed, my sti PPP only made 262

However, he has a panel filter and aftermarket exhaust that could alter the output. I remember when i went to get my car mapped, after i replaced the centre section (resonated to non resonated), at the same place i had it tested. Bearing in mind the only thing changed was a centre section, it had picked up 12hp before any alterations to the map

He only has a WRX remember though, starts with alot less power than an STI.
His mods will be doing very little has its not been mapped with them.

About 250-260bhp, the ppp is 265ps but the filter and other exhaust may have an adverse effect.

Std turbo should run out off puff at 280, so new turbo will be needed for 300+ and ofc supporting mods

PPP generally don't make their expected power for several reasons which I'm not going to go into. However, I have also found that the power output post mapping from similarly spec'd WRXs can vary so drastically based on very small details. I.e turbo wear has a great effect on peak bhp, but less of an effect on torque. Small details can lead to the difference between 250bhp and 280bhp.

Torque is usually the key ingredient in the WRXs map capabilities which is rarely exploited. Usually they make 280-310lb/ft post mapping compared to 230lb/ft pre mapping. Massive driveability difference.

This is sometimes true, the thing with the new age PPP is that it has more safety features added, for an example, my MY00 PPP had a quoted figure from Prodrive of 237bhp on unleaded and 250bhp on super, that car ran once at well lane and made 249.6bhp I think, it could have been 249.4bhp, but thats how close that one got to the figures quoted

Would I be right in saying increased torque is a bigger gearbox killer than increased bhp?

Well in increasing your bhp you would be increasing the torque as well by a given amount, but yes. However increasing peak bhp vs increasing peak torque is more likely to kill your engine due to increasing cylinder pressures and temperatures at high revs.

But everything is in consideration of course. At the numbers we are talking on a WRX, the engine and box should be just fine.

93 WRX left the factory with just 240 PS.

I know that.

But my car 'showed' that figure. Whether 'correct', or a optimistic dyno, of course, don't know.

That said, regardless you can't seriously expect any car motor to make exactly what the manufacturer states - whether less or more - given all the variables 'on the day'.

At the end of the day it was only a c.12bhp (5%) difference from the std 237bhp, so nothing to get one's knickers in a twist over.

My 3 year old WRX at the time made 284/298 with basics (exhaust, panel filter, fuel pump, plugs). I originally was looking to make the car around 300bhp but for the extra 16 bhp I didn't fancy the extra expense of a uprated turbo etc. Also at this power it's less likely to wear down things too much. Personally if I was going 300 plus i'd be going down the sti route.
