What exactly is this for ?
Do you leave it connected constantly while the car is unused to keep the battery in tip top shape ?
My car is used very little and this could be just what I'm after.

Basically, yes just that. It is a sort of intelligent battery maintainer, monitoring power/charge level of battery and topping up when needed
Makes for a healthy battery
I've used one on a bike battery before but not a car, which I asked for a recommendation

Thanks buddy, sounds like something I need then.
Hope Santa has got a big sack this year
Sack- the one he carries full of presents that is. I'm guessing his other sack is pretty full as he only comes once a year

Yup, never killed a battery since. Slightest hint of a groggy starter motor and on it goes for a few days. Same when laying up on my motorbikes.

I've got a similar one from Aldi or Lidl, cant remember which, but it's kept the battery on my old unused Lotus healthy for about 3 years now, it still starts first click every 4 months or so.
They are about £13 if you can find one.
It does 12v or 6v, small bike batteries or huge car batteries, can put out nearly 4 amps if needed, or just tick over on trickle.
