does it cool down if you drive it, or continue to heat up to the max? if it just gets hotter and hotter, even if you drive off boost then i'd suspect the water pump.

If you were running the ALS and the turbo got red hot, there's a possibility it has cracked through to the water jacket and the water is boiling away from there, and also transfering heat into the coolant system.

you checked for airlocks? run it up with the cap off the header tank and bleed the air out?

Failing that, i'll join you on being stumped!

I'd be tempted to take it to a specialists now Luke and let them have a fresh take on it.

If you are sure the system has been bled and there are no air locks, can you beg, steal or borrow a heat temperature gun - you can 'red dot' the cooling system and narrow down any potential problem areas.

I had a similar problem, turned out to be a split in the water cooling to the turbo. The water simply evaporated off the turbo (so no puddles) and the loss of pressure from the cooling system made it run hot.

Maybe time for someone else to have a look ?

Hope it's the pipe rather than the water jacket.

I bet I would.

I DAREN'T add up the money spent on mine, on mods etc.

I know that after it's demise, around £9000 was spent to get it to a fully forged 400/400 2.5 litre, and that was on a non-distressed basis, ie: the builder kept the car for as long as it took, working on it when he had time and so as to source cheaper parts if/when they came up. I myself sourced the gearbox and short engine to be split.

TBH, anyone who's done mods on an Impreza will understand.

Yes, but who rebuilt it, fitted it to the car and fitted the ancillaries?

THAT is where mistakes can be made.

I remember when mine was being done, they found dodgy bits, pipes etc and replaced them as they went along, kept me informed.

With all the money you're making, should your first port of call not be the cmpany that built it?
