Default GRADE-A-SUBARU OUT OF ORDER OR NOT U TELL ME????

I recently needed to replace the clutch on my 2007 wrx and given that it is advised to change or skim the flywheel at the same time . i searched high and low within the uk for the correct flywheel to fit my car as they changed the clutch on a 06-07 from a pull type to a push type.

i contacted gradeasubaru a number of times in order to check double check and triple check that that the flywheel the said they gad was the right one for my car. i needed to be sure as i had a mechanic coming to replace the clutch at my house so i needed the flywheel ready to go in. hense not just getting mine skimmed.

i was reasured it was the right flywheel for my car. "great" i paid the £108 and recieved the flywheel 2 days later. as the flywheel was used i had it skimmed at a cost of £72 to be sure it was in tip top condition

cost so far £180

fitting day comes and low and behold it is the wrong flywheel. after a heated conversation on the phone with a very rude and abrupt owner of grade a subaru(andrew) he refused to admit it was the wrong part as he knows what he is talking about having been in the game for 35years.

he agrees to give me a refund for my £108 but i have to return it at my cost..

i confirmed on a rr day at rcm that the flywheel he sent me was indeed the wrong one for my car. i contacted grade a to let them know his reply was ok i will pay £10 max return postage.

return postage £21
cost sofar £201

since i purchased the flywheel the card i used has been replaced so he is now telling me he can not refund direct to my account . rather than refunding me the £118 (108 fly 10 postage) by another method ie paypal / chq which i would be happy with .i know have to go threw a lengthy process of getting natwest to do a chargeback...

so after sending me the wrong item and still not having given me a refund he has listed the flywheel on ebay for £149 and there fore gaining for the work i paid for on the item he sent me that was incorrect.

now am i out of order to expect
a refund of
£108 flywgheel
£21 return postage
£72 skim

because as it stands im down £83
and he is going to be up £41 due to the work i had done...
all because he sent me the wrong flywheel for my car.

lol at one point he was tellong me on the phone i must have an odd ball car lol

sorry if this is long winded ... im so wound up right now grrrrrr

I'm surprised he took it back after you skimmed it. I know you made it better but it's kinda changing the part from what it was.

Would have been better to just sell it yourself for a higher price tbh.

You sound suprised...

Grade A will sell you anything to make a buck, whether it be right or wrong.

People in the local area avoid them like the plague..

I'd sell it myself on Ebay.

Or I'd sell me car and buy one the flywheel fits.

I bought a secondhand brembo brake kit from them many years ago, it was the original Scoobysport brembo kit. When it arrived the discs and pads were shot but were advertised as very good condition.....Grade A Subaru, high inflated prices for secondhand ****e!

Grade A is well respected in the community and have been on the scene for many years

It is actually correct a refund if your card has expired to pay by chq or other means
I have come up against this problem as the money can't be put back on an expired card

Not entirely true

I'm local, and most of the spares & mods on my old Legacy Turbo came from them

However, if I'd bought something from them, on their advice, that then turned out to be wrong, I'd expect them to at least make some contribution towards covering any additional costs I'd incurred.

Unfortunately i think they can refuse to refund you anyway if you've skimmed the flywheel they provided.

Like others suggested, sell it on and get the correct one.

Must be frustrating though.

ummm, buying second hand parts can always be tricky, this is why we always trial fit anything used before any work gets done, that owness would be on you, atleast he will refund the part,

I had a similar issue a few years ago, I phoned them for an sti up pipe, they said they had one and took my money, when it turned up was a wrx one with cat in it. I phoned them and were very unhelpful, even stating I had asked for a wrx one. They did agree if I returned at my cost they would send an sti one, but when this came it was a larger bore aftermarket part which also wasn't suitable for me. I sold it on at a loss and have used jap performance parts since then. Although in your case they are not responsible for the extra cost you put into it but they should have paid return postage tbh.

i spoke to the guy who owns the outfit and he basicly said i have been in this game 30 odd years . to which my reply was "well you would think you would now what the right parts are then wouldnt you?" ... dont get me wrong i understand i had it skimmed blah blah blah. what has peed me off is that he sent me the wrong part , he is at fault yet it is him who is going to gain and me who is going to lose..

i refuse to talk to Andrew (the owner) he is the most rude abrupt arrogant little man i have ever had the misfortune to come across.

with regards to selling it on ebay that would of been fine had it of been the right part for my car as they are very hard to find so i would of got a good price.
however the flywheel he sent me was from an older 5speed wrx and you can pick them up for £40-£60 so again i would of lost more...

are they still as bad?

having a bit of a mare regarding trying to buy one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171888503146

1. UK seemingly doesnt include N.Ireland so i cant buy it
2. And even if i could its supposedly too big to ship to N.Ireland

yes i understand couriers think crossing the irish sea is like crossing the atlantic but senditnow.com will cover NI just like any other UK postcode

annoyed

I had a similar conversation with them when I needed a set of oil cooler pipes for a spec-c...he told me he didn't have the JDM ones but had a set of UK ones sat there that I could have for £95, the fact they do t make them for a UK car didn't seem to bother him when I mentioned it.."do you want them or not" he asked....I just laughed and said they do t exist mate...Ordered them direct from Japanparts for £55 all in, waste of space they are lol!!!
