Yeah straight through decat with bigger injectors. But if you want to really go all out try an EJ25 bottom end.

you got a 20g already mate so injectors de-cat re-map headers and no reason why you'll not be getting close to 400bhp

Right, you have a v5 sti engine fitted, its not that good, bin the 20G, fit a vf48, run around 330-340bhp and you should retain your engines (hopefully) reliability.
Fitting a 2.5ltr bottom end will eat your clutch and gearbox (the ty754's are not that good, no matter what people say, 300+lbs of torque and your living dangerously).
You could vastly improve what you have, note your car wont take silly bhp without you throwing 10k+ at it, in which case its not worth it as you can get a well set up new age STI for that money with 400+bhp

That engine wont take anywhere near 400bhp reliably, damn they use to rebuild these back in the day at 320-330bhp and that was a fresh engine with a good (top quality) ecu (mafless).
They have let go at less (seen a virtually standard and running well (no fuelling issues etc)) v3 sti ra throw a rod through the block with just over 300bhp.

The new age ones are much better and can run 400+bhp all day long the classic ones suck big time

Its a version 5 sti engine, phase 2, same as the classic MY99/00 STI's.

400hp not a great idea without other mods see Tonys posts. He does seem to have a downer on powerful classics though, probably just jealous

How old are the bushes, shocks, brakes and ARB's?

With a better handling car you'll get the power down better and in the bendy bit's. I have an RR Printout for 310 BHP with my V5 STi with only a Ninja 2 cat back, uprated fuel pump and panel filter. The engine was rebuilt at 86k and it's now on 110k.
