I washed the scooby and now its...
I recitently bought a 1999 subaru wrx sti and after washing it with the bonnet DOWN, the car after about 15mins driving starts spluttering and jumping and won't rev past 5,000rpm and the turbo only boosts to 1bar not 1.4bar and i think i've hit something important with the hose!!!, i've booked it into subaru for tomorrow morning but don't want a HUGE bill and was wondering if any one knows if i've hit a senser or something and if so what one? Just so i can give them abit of info while dropping it off and they can get it sorted before checking 100 things and giving me a bill for 10 hours when its a 1 hour job... Any info would be great, cheers Owen!...

okay this may be abit silly but i've not got a clue what MAF is or what it stands for lol... but i've been told by a few people its MAF, so i'm guessing the subaru dealer would only want a hour to sort the problem out as it just needs a dry/clean off? I want to make him think i'm not a dumb 18 year old who'll pay 100s to get it fixed...

MAF is the air flow meter, on your car its located on the left hand side of the engine bay in a tube next to the air box where the air filter goes in. Chances are, if it is that then they'll want £250ish, because you've made the fatal mistake of taking a 12 year old car to a main dealer and they want to pull your pants down.

Open this scroll down the page abit it tells you how to read the fault codes. It takes 2 mins. Then come back and tell us what you find.

But, I would have allowed it to idle for a good 30 minutes to dry itself out before resorting to a dealer.

The MAF on an MY99/00 is the green stripe maf. You dont have to buy the tubing, just the maf unit, BUT, if you're going to take it to a dealer to get them to replace it then you've got parts+labour.
I know its a 10 minute job, but dealers dont work like that.
