Type R is an import STI, close ratio gearbox diff control, intercooler water spray, i have owned 1 for 3 years now, for the passed 3 years i have run on a 2.0 engine just recently had it fully rebuild with a 2.5 block, i love my car and the way it drives, i have owned an STI before and WRXs but the Type R is just a different car to drive and many people will agree to that.

Your searching for a classic obviously chap.
All STI models are imports as are WRX. The uk cars were called UK2000 or my+year. STI models were given a version number (apart from the very first one ), so a V2 would be a 96 car lets say and a V3 a 97 etc etc.
Uk cars are obviously cheaper to insure but are not as well specced as the imports.
Don't think you will find a decent type R (2door) in your price range but early STI's are out there for £3K.
Depends where you want to be insurance wise and power wise fella.
If you already have the modding bug (you probably have) then an STI would be the better starting point.

If however its an Impreza STI your after, have a good search through the 'for sale section' on here. Your more likely to find an enthusiast owned car compared to eBay and the such like.
