speed camera
right was going up to blackpool in the scoob sticking to the speed limits and when i got up there they are speed camera mad. anyway i was doing about 26-28mph past this one as didnt want any points and this d**k comes up the side of me at about 35mph and it flashed, my question is how does it no it was him speeding when it flashed as he was up the side off my car
Yes, they can work out your speed from the markings on the road, and, hopefully there will be two cars in the pictures with the other car further ahead in one (or both) of the pictures.
They are everywhere round here, there are 6 or so on Preston New Road(Back way in to blackpool once your off the M55) and about 7 at least on the prom which are useless as your lucky if you can get up to 20mhp, never mind 30mph+

As mentioned they use the road markings as "extra proof" of your speed based on the two photos. Saw a documentary (police camera action or fifth gear) where they went inside the police "safety" camera office and they explained about the white markings on the road and what they do and they work out your speed based on where your car is in the first photo compared to the second photo. However you should be fine as the other person will be in the photo on the outside "fast" lane. I've had it happen to me once when someone in the opposite direction was speeding past me and set the camera off behind me.. (some think they can't be triggered if you're on the other side of the road but they can - hopefully they got a nice ticket through the post) and I was fine but worried for a couple of weeks though.
